Join Peraton as a Senior Cyber Software Engineer
Peraton is seeking a Senior Cyber Software Engineer to join our high-impact Cyber Missions team in Laurel, MD. In this role, you’ll work as part of an integrated product development team building mission-critical capabilities that operate across large-scale compute clusters and modern AWS cloud environments.
You’ll play a key role throughout the full software lifecycle—designing, developing, optimizing, and sustaining advanced cyber systems that directly support national-level missions.
What You’ll Do
- Drive all phases of agile software development for a full-featured cloud-hosted service
- Develop, test, and integrate new capabilities while improving performance and scalability
- Contribute to optimization and performance tuning for distributed systems
- Support ongoing operations, sustainment, and system enhancements
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineers to deliver reliable, secure, mission-aligned solutions
What You Bring
Technical Expertise
- Hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and Agentic AI
- Strong background in AWS architecture, including use of AWS SDKs and APIs
- Proficiency with observability tools (Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, etc.)
- Experience building and managing infrastructure with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and monitoring best practices
- Java programming expertise for distributed, networked, and multi-threaded systems
- Familiarity with microservices, containerization, and Kubernetes orchestration
- Experience working in Agile development environments with modern source-control and collaboration tools
- Working knowledge of security and compliance principles for cloud-based and distributed systems
What You’ll Own
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be trusted to:
- Independently perform development, installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Lead technical evaluations, estimate task durations, and help shape project plans
- Review engineering designs for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with mission needs
- Contribute to a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement
Basic Qualifications
- 14+ years of Software Engineering experience on programs of similar scope and complexity
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering, Statistics, Engineering Management, or a related field
- May substitute 4 additional years of SWE experience in lieu of a degree
- Active TS/SCI with polygraph required
