This position will play an integral role in bringing new research and visual resources to the animal protection community, ultimately increasing our impact for animals. Responsibilities
- Identify external data sources and opportunities for new resource creation
- Lead new data analysis projects
- Lead development of a visualization hub presenting global data and trends for animal advocates
- Create visual resources from original research reports
- Provide general data visualization support to content team for research library infographics
- Provide general data visualization support to communications team for social media graphics
- Supervise volunteers creating new visual data resources
Essential Qualifications
- Belief in Faunalytics’ mission
- 2+ years of experience in data science, analysis, and visualization
- Expertise with R and the tidyverse
- Experience in general graphic design
- Strong attention to detail
- Self-driven and able to work remotely with limited oversight
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team
Preferred Qualifications
- College diploma or higher in a relevant field
- 5+ years of experience in in data science, analysis, and visualization
- Experience in animal protection and effective animal advocacy
- Experience creating Shiny apps or similar (please specify)
- Experience with HTML and CSS
- Experience with other data science and visualization tools (e.g., Python; please specify)
- Experience using Github or another version control tool
- Experience with video creation and editing a plus
- Familiarity with Infogram, Google Workplace, Asana, and Slack
Details
- Reports to: Content Director
- Works closely with: Research Team
- Schedule: Part time (20 hours/week)
- Salary: $28,242 USD
- Vacation Package: 7.5 paid vacation days, 5 paid floating holidays, 10 paid self-care/sick days

- Location: Permanently remote (open to candidates in the U.S. or Canada)
Application Timeline and Process
- August: The application deadline is August 20, 2023.
- September: Select candidates will be invited to one video interview with two Faunalytics team members.
- October: Finalists will be invited to a second and final video interview with 2-3 Faunalytics team members. Finalists will also be asked to complete a short work task. Finalists who are not selected for the role will receive a small stipend for time spent on the task and final interview.
- November: The target start date is November 1, 2023.
