Principal Analytics Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a Principal Analytics Engineer to lead the design, evolution, and scalability of our analytics data platform. This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who has deep hands-on expertise in dbt, SQL, Python, and cloud data warehousing, and who has experience shaping data architecture, modeling standards, and engineering best practices across teams.

This role is ideal for someone who does more than build pipelines or reports. We are looking for a leader who can define how data should be modeled, tested, governed, and delivered to support reliable analytics at scale. The right candidate will bring strong technical depth, architectural judgment, and the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the design and evolution of scalable analytics data architecture across the organization
• Define and implement best practices for analytics engineering, including modeling, testing, documentation, and maintainability
• Build and optimize data models using dbt and modern cloud data warehouse platforms such as Snowflake or Amazon Redshift
• Design scalable data models using approaches such as Dimensional Modeling, Data Vault, or similar frameworks, with clear rationale for when to use each
• Write high-quality, performant SQL and use Python for data pipeline development, tooling, testing, or automation
• Establish standards for project structure, reusability, testing strategy, and long-term maintainability in dbt environments
• Identify and resolve systemic data quality, reliability, and trust issues across datasets and workflows
• Partner with analytics, engineering, product, and business teams to align data architecture with business needs
• Communicate technical decisions, tradeoffs, and architectural direction clearly to a range of stakeholders
• Help drive technical direction across teams and elevate the overall maturity of the data organization

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years of total experience in data-focused roles, with significant depth in Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or Data Architecture
• Proven track record of owning and evolving large-scale data architectures, not just contributing within them
• Expert-level proficiency in SQL
• Strong hands-on experience with cloud data warehouse platforms such as Snowflake or Amazon Redshift
• Deep expertise with dbt, including advanced project structure, testing, modular design, and scalable implementation patterns
• Strong experience designing scalable data models using Dimensional Modeling, Data Vault, or similar approaches
• Strong Python skills applied to data engineering, testing, automation, or tooling
• Experience influencing technical direction and working across multiple teams
• Proven ability to identify and solve broad data quality and reliability issues at an organizational level
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
