As a Data Center Controls Engineer at Hypertec Construction, you will be part of a dynamic team of professionals including software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. You will collaborate across the organization to deliver industry-leading safety and security standards while optimizing capacity for our customers at the lowest possible cost. What You’ll Be Contributing:
- Design, develop, and implement automation and monitoring systems that support the safe, resilient, and efficient operation of mission-critical data center infrastructure;
- Own and manage Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) across the full project lifecycle, including design, integration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance;
- Lead the integration and commissioning of control systems, ensuring seamless interaction between power distribution, cooling systems, life safety systems, and other critical infrastructure;
- Develop, configure, and optimize control logic, system architectures, and communication frameworks to ensure reliable system performance and scalability;
- Provide hands-on support for troubleshooting, system diagnostics, and issue resolution during construction, commissioning, and operational phases;
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders—including engineering, construction, operations, and external vendors—to deliver coordinated and high-quality control system solutions;
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by refining control strategies, standardizing system designs, and establishing best-in-class processes within the controls domain;
- Support project execution activities, including design reviews, vendor management, system testing, commissioning validation, and quality assurance;
- Ensure robust automation, reliable communications, and clear operational visibility across all critical systems;
- Implement and maintain monitoring solutions and data-driven insights to support operational decision-making and system optimization;
- Contribute to achieving 100% uptime and system resilience by ensuring all control systems are designed, integrated, and maintained to meet the demands of modern data center environments;
What Sets You Apart:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field;
- Equivalent engineering science plus 5+ years of relevant controls experience, OR 7+ years of relevant controls experience in lieu of a degree;
- 5+ years of experience with industrial controls in critical environment (data center, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, oil & gas, petrochemical, laboratory, power, water etc.);
- 4+ years of general project or vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, and RFI and submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Controls/Automation);
- Experience designing, configuring, programming, installing, troubleshooting or servicing HVAC Controls or Electrical SCADA systems application specific controllers, software and networks.
- Experiencing using common industrial communication protocols (MQTT, BACnet and/or MODBUS);
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation, electrical and mechanical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholder deliverables, requirements, and navigate difficult situations;
- Experience designing data centers or critical MEP infrastructure
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE), or certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Prior AWS/Amazon experience.
