Data Centre Network Engineer (Freelance)

About

We are currently seeking an experienced Data Centre Network Engineer to support the delivery and operation of critical network infrastructure within one of Germany’s fastest-growing data centre environments.

This is an opportunity to join a high-performing infrastructure team responsible for the design, deployment, optimisation and support of enterprise-scale and hyperscale network environments across multiple data centre facilities in the Frankfurt region.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure and support complex data centre network infrastructure
• Deploy and maintain Cisco, Juniper and/or Arista network environments
• Configure routing and switching technologies including BGP, OSPF, VLANs and VXLAN
• Support network migrations, upgrades and expansion projects
• Troubleshoot network performance and connectivity issues within mission-critical environments
• Work closely with data centre operations, infrastructure and security teams
• Support fibre connectivity, structured cabling and interconnection projects
• Produce technical documentation and network diagrams
• Participate in project planning, implementation and testing activities

Requirements

• Several years of experience as a Network Engineer within enterprise, telecoms or data centre environments
• Strong hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper or Arista technologies
• Solid understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking
• Experience with routing protocols including BGP and OSPF
• Familiarity with fibre infrastructure and data centre networking concepts
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Fluent German and good English communication skills

Desirable

• Experience within hyperscale or colocation data centres
• Network automation exposure (Python, Ansible, Terraform)
• CCNP, JNCIP or equivalent certifications
• Experience with SDN and modern data centre architectures
