Data Engineer (Banking domain)

The Data Engineer is responsible for leveraging data engineering expertise and modern data technologies, aligned with the organisation’s Data Architecture Roadmap, to deliver high-quality, fit-for-purpose data products. This role plays a key part in enhancing the bank’s data infrastructure to enable advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The Data Engineer will build and maintain scalable data pipelines, ensuring clean, reliable, and accessible data for stakeholders, supporting the organisation’s strategy to become a data-driven enterprise.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Pipeline Maintenance: Day-to-day maintenance of data pipelines, supporting data squads with tasks such as data profiling, cleaning, configurations, validation, and quality assurance.
• Data Infrastructure: Support and maintain secure, available, and reliable data infrastructure.
• Pipeline Build: Maintain pipelines across Data Virtualisation, Ingestion, and Provisioning. Monitor pipeline performance and configure/support minor changes.
• Data Visualisation: Create virtual databases and assist in generating data extracts for business needs.
• Documentation & Analysis: Collaborate with Data Analysts for profiling, validation, and documentation in support of Epics.
• Warehouse Monitoring: Provide first-line support for Data Warehouse, ensuring SLA timelines for availability and reliability.
• Cloud Monitoring: Daily monitoring and management of cloud compute and storage processes to ensure successful pipeline runs.
• Operations: Run daily operational reports to confirm successful job execution and warehouse maintenance.
• Collaboration: Work with business stakeholders to gain knowledge, understand data extracts, and optimise queries.

Mandate Skills

• Experience with data pipeline tools and frameworks (ETL/ELT)
• Strong SQL skills with large datasets
• Knowledge of big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka)
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Prior experience in banking data environments (regulatory reporting, risk, finance, customer data)
• Exposure to enterprise data architecture frameworks
• Experience supporting machine learning or advanced analytics use cases
