About
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer (m/f/d) MS SQL for our client in the rail transport sector at the Frankfurt am Main location.
The company currently operates several productive BI, DWH, and database-based legacy systems based on Microsoft SQL Server (Azure Managed Instance), T-SQL, and SSIS-based ETL routes. As part of a larger overall project, these systems are to be gradually replaced by a new target architecture. Until the final migration, the legacy systems must be operated reliably and developed further in a targeted manner.

Project Description
- Functional monitoring and support of the MSSQL and ETL legacy systems (SSIS, T-SQL) on Azure SQL Managed Instance.
- Ensuring data quality and analyzing functional error patterns.
- Further development and optimization of T-SQL procedures, views, and DWH models.
- Support of the migration through functional validation of data in the target architecture and technical expertise.
- Methodology: Agile approach based on Scrum or Kanban within an internal data project.
- Steering: Structured backlog process with sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Tools: Microsoft Teams (Communication), Confluence (Documentation), GitLab (Versioning/Development), Jira (Task Management).
- Languages: German (C2 – near native) and English (B1 – advanced).
Skills
- Must-Have: Experience in operating cloud-based MSSQL environments on Azure SQL Managed Instance – proven by at least five (5) reference projects, each with productive operation for at least 12 months.
- Must-Have: Practical experience in the functional operation of MSSQL-based BI/DWH systems on Azure SQL Managed Instance – proven by an experience level of at least 3 years.
- Must-Have: Experience in the functional operation of interfaces, rule exports & data quality processes – proven by at least 5 references.
- Must-Have: Methodological competence in functional data, process, and ETL modeling – proven by an experience level of at least 3 years.
- Must-Have: Practical experience in the functional support of ETL routes (SSIS, T-SQL) – proven by an experience level of at least 3 years.
- In-depth knowledge of T-SQL and performance optimization – proven by an experience level of at least 3 years.
- Experience in documenting functional processes and data flows – proven by an experience level of at least 3 years.
- Experience in dbt (data build tool), Azure Databricks, Apache NiFi, and Microsoft Power BI – proven by an experience level of at least 3 years.
- Experience in functional validation and test management of data migrations – proven by an experience level of at least 3 years.
- Proof of Databricks certificate – proven by the certificate "Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate".
