Project: IRB Model Adoption – the Bank is going towards internal rate-based model for some products as mandated by the OSFI regulators; initiate phases this month
The data scientist must understand bank data and refine and create a unified data model for the whole bank, will work with python engineer and data engineers on this, will get the support of other team members as needed – though should be able to independently work on it.
Responsibilities
- Analyze large, complex datasets from banking and capital markets domains to extract insights and identify trends
- Develop, validate, and deploy statistical models and machine learning solutions to support business initiatives
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate financial and regulatory requirements into analytical solutions
- Support risk, compliance, and regulatory reporting use cases (e.g., stress testing, credit risk)
- Perform data exploration, feature engineering, and model performance evaluation
- Design and optimize SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis
- Develop analytics workflows and models using Python and related libraries
- Communicate insights through dashboards, visualizations, and clear documentation
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with internal governance and regulatory standards
Requirements
- 10+ years’ Proven experience as a Data Scientist or Analyst, with at least 5+ within Banking or Capital Calculations
- 5+ years’ proficiency in SQL for complex data querying and performance optimization
- 2+ years hands-on experience with Python (basic coding knowledge)
- Experience working with large structured and unstructured datasets
- Solid grounding in statistics, data analysis, and predictive modeling
Nice-To-Have Skills
- Strong understanding of financial products, markets, and industry data
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and reporting
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- Basic understanding of LLMs, AI tools e.g. CoPilot

We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist with strong Banking and Capital Markets domain knowledge to join our team. The ideal candidate will apply advanced data science techniques to design a one stop unified data mart for the banks data and support data-driven decision-making. Regulatory domain knowledge and hands-on technical skills in SQL and Python are considered strong advantages.

Location Address: Hybrid - Toronto – 2 days/week (Mondays, Wednesdays) Subject to change: 3–4 days onsite may be required based on business needs Contract Duration: ASAP to FYE 10/31/2026 – approx. 5 months with high Possibility of extension Reason: New project Business group: Global Finance & Risk Technology – 20-22 employees, do capital calculations for the Bank and regulatory reporting – mix of Dev/QAs – full stack, various technologies and ongoing initiatives and projects
