Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a similar discipline; a Masters or Doctorate may substitute for required experience
- Over 7 years of experience as a Database Architect
- Familiar with AWS database services, including Amazon RDS, AuroraDB, DynamoDB, Redshift, ElastiCache, EMR, and Neptune
- Knowledge of AWS security best practices (IAM, encryption, VPC, security groups) and compliance mandates for data storage
- Strong diagnostic skills for AWS-related issues and incidents
- Proficiency in optimizing queries, managing caching, clustering, and applying auto‑scaling to accommodate workloads
- Experienced in automation and scripting (CloudFormation, Terraform, AWS CLI, Python, Bash, PowerShell) for managing databases and workflows
- Ability to obtain and retain a Public Trust security clearance
Responsibilities
- Leverage AWS database and data processing tools, including Amazon RDS, AuroraDB, DynamoDB, Redshift, ElastiCache, EMR, and Neptune
- Set up, launch, and oversee EMR clusters, ensuring efficiency in performance and cost, while integrating various data sources
- Design scalable, secure, and high‑performing database solutions
- Connect databases with other AWS services such as Lambda, S3, EC2, and Glue
- Implement AWS security best practices and ensure compliance for data storage
- Develop backups, disaster recovery protocols, high availability, and failover strategies (Multi‑AZ, read replicas)
- Address issues and incidents related to AWS
- Create, implement, and manage virtual data warehouses in Snowflake
- Author complex SQL queries for data analysis, transformation, and reporting
- Optimize queries and manage caching, clustering, and auto‑scaling mechanisms for workloads
- Ensure adherence to SSA security, privacy, and data management guidelines
- Communicate effectively with management, customers, teams, or vendors, tailoring technical information to the appropriate audience
- Offer guidance and support to junior and mid‑level developers
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed
