About
We are looking for a Design Engineer (m/f/d) to strengthen our growing Customer Care team. This individual contributor role sits at the intersection of design, frontend technology, and customer consulting, playing a pivotal role in driving customer adoption, product usage, and long-term success.
You bring in-depth expertise in UI/UX, frontend development, and SaaS consulting, and have a passion for translating customer requirements into scalable, high-quality platform solutions. You think from the customer's perspective and support our clients in extracting maximum value from Staffbase – visually, technically, and strategically.
To support our customers, this role covers working hours from Monday to Friday, 09:00–18:00 (CET).
Responsibilities
- Technical point of contact in the design area for enterprise customers and key stakeholders
- Translate business and technical requirements into UI/UX, styling, and frontend customization solutions, in line with product best practices
- Support customers in creating modern, accessible, and brand-compliant applications – using Staffbase configurations, custom frontend techniques, and AI-powered features
- Create mockups, prototypes, and design concepts for decision-making
- Design and guide frontend implementations using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, and modern frameworks (e.g., REST APIs, React environment)
- Provide expert advice on theming, custom CSS, layout strategies, and component- and widget-based architectures
- Take responsibility for design-driven implementations throughout the entire onboarding process and customer lifecycle
- Close collaboration with Technical Support Engineers, Onboarding Specialists, and Customer Care Agents on complex customer projects
- Identify technical risks, edge cases, and scalability issues to prevent recurring issues
- Lead customer workshops with design, frontend, and technical teams and define implementation roadmaps
- Work closely with Product Designers, UX Researchers, Frontend Engineers, and Customer Success Managers
- Incorporate structured customer feedback into product discussions to influence roadmap priorities and usability improvements
- Further develop internal processes, documentation, and best practices with a focus on quality and efficiency
- Act as a Staffbase product expert with a strong service mindset
Requirements
- More than 3 years of experience in frontend development, web design, technical consulting, professional services, or comparable practical SaaS experience
- Degree in Visual Communication, Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Web Engineering, or a comparable practical background
- Demonstrable experience collaborating with enterprise customers and cross-functional teams (e.g., Sales, Customer Success, Consultants, System Integrators)
- Successful participation in or leadership of complex, deadline-driven technical projects
- Strategic thinking combined with a strong implementation orientation; ability to translate visions into concrete results – even in dynamic SaaS environments with changing priorities
- Very good knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, as well as practical experience with React and modern frontend environments
- Basic knowledge of Tailwind CSS and component-based design systems
- Proficient use of tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Photoshop, Illustrator, Miro, or comparable applications
- Strong design understanding and ability to solve complex visual and UX challenges across platforms
- Structured, proactive, and quality-oriented work approach, as well as teamwork skills, curiosity, and enjoyment of continuous learning and collaboration
- Strong focus on accessibility (WCAG) and usability principles
- Experience with JSON, XML, and API-based, data-driven frontend architectures
- Fluent German and English language skills, as well as the ability to explain complex technical content understandably to different target groups
- Strong presentation and stakeholder management skills

Requirements
