The Aston Thomas Integrity Commission is the world’s first public‑benefit standards institution dedicated to certifying the Provenance, Integrity, and Governance of AI systems. ATIC operates at the intersection of technology, law, ethics, and public trust that establishes the frameworks that will define how AI is built, deployed, and evaluated across the next century.
ATIC’s work is guided by discreet advisory groups across diplomacy, law, science, medicine, academia, cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure. The Design Ethicist joins this ecosystem as a specialist shaping how integrity is communicated, operationalized, and embedded into the user experience of AI systems.
Role Overview
The Design Ethicist ensures that ATIC’s standards, certification processes, and public‑facing materials reflect ethical clarity, human‑centered design, and institutional rigor. This role sits at the intersection of design, governance, and philosophy—translating complex integrity requirements into interfaces, frameworks, and experiences that uphold trust.
You will help define how AI integrity is understood by students, founders, researchers, and organizations nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop ethical design frameworks that align with ATIC’s certification criteria and governance models.
- Evaluate AI systems, interfaces, and user flows for transparency, accountability, and responsible design.
- Collaborate with standards contributors, advisory chambers, and board representatives to integrate ethical design principles into ATIC’s national programs.
- Shape the visual and conceptual language of AI integrity for public-facing materials, educational programs, and institutional documentation.
- Provide guidance on emerging risks in UX, dark patterns, data transparency, and human‑AI interaction.
- Contribute to the evolution of ATIC’s trust‑layer philosophy through design‑driven insights.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Background in Design Ethics, Human‑Computer Interaction, Responsible AI, UX Research, or Applied Philosophy.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating or designing systems with ethical, regulatory, or societal impact.
- Ability to translate complex technical or governance concepts into clear, human‑centered design principles.
- Strong understanding of AI systems, data flows, and the implications of design decisions on trust and accountability.
- Comfortable working within an institution that operates with high standards, long‑horizon thinking, and a public‑benefit mandate.
- Experience collaborating with cross‑disciplinary experts (law, policy, engineering, academia, etc.).
