Job Summary

The Design Lead is responsible for executing customer/user experience (CX/UX) strategies and creating products that engage users. This person must be proficient in human centered design, change management, how people interact effectively with websites and digital tools and proficiency in the latest CX/UX methods and technology trends

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the CX/UX related planning, prioritization and decision making. Advocate for broader CX/UX activities in support of HSIN as needed.
• Lead and participate in sessions that leverage CX/UX design methods and strategies.
• Translate user needs into concepts, personas, user journeys, information architecture, user flows, wireframes and visual design prototypes using tools such as Figma, Mural, and Optimal Workshop.
• Conduct and synthesize user research and usability testing and translate those results into designs that will improve products in an iterative fashion.
• Collaborate effectively with HSIN Product Managers, software developers, and SDD leadership to articulate the CX vision, trade-offs, and decisions.
• Prepare design style guides (using the U.S. Web Design System as a baseline) and CSS frameworks and ensure that they are used in development.
• Develop KPIs to measure users’ success at interacting with user interface elements.
• Provide database/repository of the research and outcomes (eg. journey maps, user insights, and wireframes, etc.)
• Develop prototypes. The prototypes will be Medium- or high-fidelity artifact that mimics functionality and supports research and usability testing with users (remotely and in-person). Prototypes shall be created with tools appropriate to the task: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; digital prototyping tools (InVision, for example); paper and pencil.
• Lead efforts to develop and implement HSIN-specific design patterns and information architecture that adhere to DHS brand guidelines.
• Collaborate with DHS trusted testers and OAST to ensure that all front-end design and development work is Section 508 compliant for accessibility.
• Balance user needs with product owner priorities and technical feasibility.
• Ensure use of U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) are implemented in all products.
• Drive a plain language content strategy to facilitate an easy-to-understand user experience for all users.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, information technology/systems or equivalent.
• U.S. Citizenship (required as per Federal client)
