Design Manager

About the Role

As Design Manager, you will play a critical role bridging design and construction, ensuring all technical deliverables are coordinated, approved, and implemented to the highest standard. You’ll work closely with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders onsite to drive quality, resolve technical issues, and maintain program alignment.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Oversight

• Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary design delivery (MEP & CSA) across all project phases
• Act in an Engineer of Record-type capacity, ensuring technical accountability and compliance
• Review and comment on technical submittals (materials, equipment, calculations)
• Review shop drawings and construction/fabrication drawings against design intent
• Respond to contractor RFIs and technical queries in a timely manner

Site-Based Design Coordination

• Work full-time onsite to ensure design alignment with installation works
• Identify and mitigate design and construction risks proactively
• Ensure works proceed only with approved drawings and documentation
• Liaise with CSA, Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls teams to coordinate interfaces

Quality & Compliance

• Monitor installation quality across MEP and CSA scopes
• Raise and manage snags/defects across all disciplines, with a focus on MEP systems
• Ensure adherence to project specifications, local regulations, and industry standards

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

• Contribute to weekly progress reports, highlighting risks and key issues
• Lead or attend meetings representing the employer:
  • Design coordination meetings
  • Construction progress meetings
  • Snagging/quality reviews
• Provide clear communication across all stakeholders to support project delivery

Your Profile

• Proven experience as a Design Manager, Resident Engineer, or Senior Design Engineer on data centre or mission-critical projects
• Strong MEP engineering background (mechanical or electrical preferred)
• Demonstrated experience overseeing both MEP and CSA scopes on site
• Experience working in an onsite, construction-phase environment
• Ability to manage multidisciplinary coordination on complex projects
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Full rights to work in Germany / EU passport required
• Degree-qualified in Engineering (or equivalent)
