About the role

Role Overview

  • We are seeking a talented and proactive DevOps Engineer based in Abuja to support the automation, security, and scalability of our software infrastructure.
  • This role requires deep expertise in DevOps practices and a specialized focus on VPN deployment and management to secure our distributed systems and enhance delivery pipelines.
  • This position will be critical in integrating development and operations functions, ensuring infrastructure reliability, optimizing continuous integration and deployment processes, and securing internal and external network communications via robust VPN solutions.

Key Responsibilities

DevOps Engineering:

  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
  • Automate infrastructure using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
  • Administer and support containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Implement and monitor system performance, availability, and security using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Datadog.
  • Optimize build, release, and deployment cycles, enhancing speed and reducing failure rates.

VPN Deployment & Network Security:

  • Design, configure, deploy, and manage secure VPN infrastructures (e.g., OpenVPN, WireGuard, IPsec).
  • Set up secure site-to-site and remote access VPNs to ensure secure communication between internal teams, partners, and third-party systems.
  • Monitor and optimize VPN performance, resolve issues related to latency, throughput, and connection stability.
  • Implement and enforce network access policies, user authentication methods (MFA, certificates), and secure routing.
  • Ensure compliance with industry best practices and internal data protection policies.

Infrastructure Security & DevSecOps:

  • Integrate security protocols into CI/CD and infrastructure workflows.
  • Manage secrets and credentials securely across environments (e.g., Vault, AWS Secrets Manager).
  • Conduct security audits and support compliance with GDPR, NDPR, and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Work with the security team to identify, resolve, and document infrastructure vulnerabilities.

Collaboration & Documentation:

  • Collaborate with development, cybersecurity, and project teams to align deployments with business needs.
  • Maintain clear documentation for systems architecture, infrastructure setup, and VPN configurations.
  • Educate internal stakeholders on DevOps tools, workflows, and VPN access procedures.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • BSc./MSc. in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in DevOps engineering roles.
  • Demonstrable experience managing VPN infrastructure and secure networking.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced Linux/Unix administration and scripting (Bash, Python, etc.).
  • Expertise with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git, Terraform, Ansible).
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Deep understanding of VPN technologies (OpenVPN, WireGuard, IPsec) and their integration in hybrid environments.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Strong grasp of networking, firewalls, routing, encryption protocols (SSL/TLS, SSH), and access control.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Detail-oriented, security-conscious, and methodical.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile, and mission-driven environment.
  • Strong team player with leadership potential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in DevOps, cloud platforms, or security (e.g., AWS DevOps Engineer, CKA, HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate).
  • Experience in fintech, identity, or data protection sectors.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture or advanced network security principles.
