The Digital Control System Engineering Manager will lead & develop a project team of technical resources responsible for design, integration and testing on Grid Automation projects. Through close collaboration with the Grid Automation Solution Architects, Technical Leaders and Project Managers, the team defines, plans & implements SCADA, Substation Automation, Integrated Energy Management Solutions, Substation Networks, Cybersecurity solutions and associated site services activities for customers in the USA and Canada. This individual will provide strategic and technical leadership, ensuring high‑quality system‑level engineering solutions, robust technical governance, and effective people and capability development aligned with business goals.
Main Head of Engineering Tasks
- Manage engineering team, defining team strategy, set‑up & Key Performance indicators
- Keep high standards in project engineering, efficiency, and on‑time delivery as per EMH rules
- Track and manage resource utilization in conjunction with Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure efficiency and ability to meet demand
- Develop Substation Automation Services offerings to contribute to GA service and solutions growth
Essential Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team across System Design, Integration and Testing.
- Define and execute a clear vision and operating model for the Digital Control System Engineering organization in alignment with the GA Engineering strategy.
- Drive a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Lead EHS/Safety actions and performance: be fully compliant with GE rules and processes, ensure engineering teams (own and subcontracted) are properly trained and holders of required qualifications.
Technical Governance
- Ensure consistent and high‑quality delivery of engineering deliverables.
- Analyse and best utilize our automation portfolio options including DS Agile, IEMS, G500, GPG, D20, etc.
- Provide guidance and review for project‑critical design decisions, ensuring technical compliance with standards and customer requirements.
Project & Portfolio Execution
- Support bid and project execution phases by defining system‑level concepts and integration strategies.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams, project management, and supply chain to ensure smooth system integration and handover to commissioning.
- Drive design standardization, digital engineering tools, and best practices across DCS domain.
People & Capability Development
- Build strong succession and competency development plans for all subfunctions.
- Promote talent growth through coaching, technical training, and cross‑project exposure.
- Attract and retain high‑performing engineers.
- Qualify and develop external resource contractors to augment skillsets and manage peak loads.
Stakeholder Management
- Partner closely with NPI, Tendering, and Regional Commercial teams to ensure alignment on technical strategy and resource deployment.
- Work in close conjunction with the tendering team to provide tender estimations and post‑delivery project feedback.
- Represent Digital Control System Engineering in internal and external technical forums, customer meetings, and audits.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor of Engineering degree from an accredited university or college.
- 8 years in electricity and automation engineering, including distribution automation, substation digitization, diagnostics, APM, device management, and cybersecurity.
- 3 years designing and programming electrical control systems, including SCADA/HMI, IEC 61850, firewalls, cybersecurity, and networking.
- 5 years managing engineering teams.
Eligibility Requirements
- Fully fluent in English.
- Willingness to travel 30% in the US and Canada.
Desired Characteristics
- Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science; Professional Engineering License.
- Knowledge of cyber asset protection regulations affecting the utilities industry including NERC CIP, NIST.
- Knowledge of network communication protocols including: Modbus, OPC (DA, AE, UA), DNP3, IEC 61850, etc.
- Experience with smart grid technologies and renewable energy integration.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to influence and lead cross‑functional teams.
- Previous work experience in multi‑cultural environment.
- Proven leadership under project structure.
- Strong business acumen, execution driven, process appliance, PM metrics, teamwork.

- Pay Range: $113,200.00 – $188,800.00 (U.S. based position)
- The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
- Specific pay offered may be influenced by experience, education, and skill set.
- Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
