Digital Twin & Digital Engineering (MBSE) - Next-Gen Technology Engineer
Peraton
About the role
About
Within Peraton's Space and Intel sector, there is an immediate need for a Digital Twin & Digital Engineering emergent technologist to lead our digital engineering transformation initiatives across the US Intelligence and Space Community portfolio. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Reston, Virginia, with flexibility to travel to customer sites for classified and non-classified solution activities.
As a Next-Gen Technology Engineer (NTE), reporting directly to the Sector CTO, you will be the organization's authority on applying digital twin technologies and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices to solve complex mission challenges. You will identify where digital twins can deliver maximum value—from satellite operations to ground system optimization to mission planning—and design solutions that transform how our customers develop, operate, and sustain critical systems.
This role is suited for professionals who combine expertise in the latest digital twin technologies with practical understanding of defense and space mission applications. You bring both the technical depth to architect sophisticated digital twin solutions and the mission awareness to ensure they deliver tangible operational value.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of digital twin solutions for government proposals, identifying high-value applications across satellite systems, ground infrastructure, and mission operations
- Architect model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approaches that integrate with digital twin implementations to enable continuous system verification and validation
- Develop digital engineering strategies and roadmaps that guide customers from document-centric to model-centric development practices
- Apply simulation, modeling, and—where appropriate—AI-enhanced predictive capabilities to maximize digital twin value for operational decision-making
- Collaborate with business development, capture teams, and program managers to identify digital engineering opportunities and develop compelling technical solutions
- Infuse existing programs with digital twin and MBSE capabilities, demonstrating value through pilot implementations and incremental adoption
- Mentor, educate, and/or train technical staff on digital engineering practices, tools, and methodologies, building organizational capability beyond individual expertise
- Articulate digital twin solutions, their benefits, and implementation approaches to senior leadership, customers, and governance review boards
- Stay current on digital twin technologies, standards (e.g., Digital Twin Consortium), and emerging applications in defense and space domains
Qualifications
- A minimum of 6+ years of experience with a BS/BA in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; OR 4+ years of experience with a MS/MA in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; OR 2+ years of experience with a PhD in a related field.
- This position requires the candidate to possess a minimum of Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI. The candidate must maintain the clearance.
- Demonstrated expertise in digital twin technologies, architectures, and implementation approaches
- Hands-on experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies (e.g., Cameo, DOORS, Teamcenter)
- Understanding of simulation and modeling techniques applicable to complex systems
- Experience applying digital engineering practices in defense, space, or intelligence community environments
- Knowledge of digital twin applications across system lifecycle—design, development, operations, and sustainment
- Demonstrated experience identifying high-value digital twin applications and develop compelling ROI narratives
- Full-time on-site availability with ability to collaborate across engineering, business development, and program teams
Desired Qualifications
- An active/current TS/SCI is highly desired
- Experience with satellite system modeling, space system simulation, or ground system digital twins
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to articulate digital engineering value propositions to diverse audiences
- Knowledge of AI/ML applications for digital twin enhancement, predictive maintenance, or anomaly detection
- Familiarity with digital thread concepts and integration of digital twins with PLM/ALM systems
- Experience with relevant tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Ansys, or specialized digital twin platforms
- INCOSE certification (ASEP, CSEP) or equivalent systems engineering credentials
- Experience contributing to proposals with digital engineering technical components
- Graduate coursework or research in digital twins, MBSE, or simulation engineering
