About the role

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Global Engineering is responsible for leading a team of engineering managers in Delaware, Pune, and Xi’an to expand and maintain Vertiv’s Energy Storage global portfolio. This is a highly visible and critical role that is responsible for launching new offerings into the market, strategic advanced technology projects leadership, product cost-out projects, and products sustaining activities. This role requires strong collaboration with Offering, Quality, Manufacturing, PMO, and Service and a close collaboration with Large Power Converter, Modular Power Converter, Advanced Technology & Microgrid engineering leads.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, mentor, and monitor a team of engineering managers in multiple engineering disciplines and design locations developing and maintaining Energy Storage products.
  • Responsible for establishing and executing the long ‑ term engineering strategy and global capability roadmap for the Energy Storage product line, ensuring technology leadership, scalability, and alignment with Vertiv’s multi ‑ year business growth objectives
  • Develop and drive the long ‑ term engineering strategy for the Energy Storage product line, including technology roadmaps, capability planning, organizational development, and investment prioritization
  • Own and manage an engineering R&D operating budget of approximately $7M and $3M in annual capital expenditures to support new product development, lab infrastructure, advanced technology projects, and product cost ‑ out initiatives.
  • Monitor the technology space to identify and proactively respond to new opportunities based on research, trends, and competitive activity.
  • Maintain a set of engineering KPIs and track team performance and overall success against strategic goals.
  • Develop and execute product lifecycle projects including NPD, line extension, engineered to order, and product cost-out.
  • Champion and promote usage of DMAIC methodologies, including Pugh analysis, Design of Experiment, design and application FMEA, process capability study and root cause analysis
  • Assist in creating technical architecture, requirements, and promote ideation and innovation.
  • Identify and pursue continuous improvement projects that deliver improved efficiency and/or quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical degree; Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • 10+ years technical leadership experience in the industrial domain with increasing managerial responsibilities.
  • Proven experience managing multi-million-dollar operating budgets and capital planning for engineering organizations.
  • Experience managing large, multi ‑ disciplinary engineering organizations through functional leaders.
  • Experience with Lithium-Ion Battery Management System development is preferred.
  • Ability to quickly develop cross-functional and cross-regional relationships to achieve business objectives.
  • Process and results are oriented with proven ability to accomplish goals.
  • Experience working with international teams in China and India is preferred.
  • Excellent communications skills – written & verbal.
