Job Summary

The company is a leader in the capture and conversion of biogas into low carbon intensity renewable natural gas (RNG) and renewable electricity. The company is also a leader in the marketing and distribution of RNG to heavy duty trucking and other hard-to-decarbonize industrial sectors.

We are searching for Director - Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) to join our Upstream Construction Team. This senior leadership role is responsible for the successful delivery of a large, complex capital portfolio of biogas-to-pipeline energy infrastructure projects. The Director will oversee 1-2 concurrent projects with a total capital value of approximately $100-200MM USD while directly leading, mentoring, and managing a team of 5–7 Project Managers responsible for similarly sized projects.

This position reports to the SVP of Construction and plays a critical role in setting the technical, commercial, and execution standards for engineering, procurement, and construction across the organization. The successful candidate will ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all quality and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Capital Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Provide overall EPC leadership for 1-2 active capital projects totaling approximately $100-200MM USD.
  • Establish and enforce project governance and stage-gate execution standards.
  • Ensure safe project execution in full compliance with OSHA and company safety programs.
  • Oversee integrated project controls, including cost, schedule, risk, and change management.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for major project issues, claims, and disputes.

People Leadership & Organization Development

  • Directly manage, coach, and mentor 5–7 Project Managers.
  • Build and develop a high-performance EPC organization with standardized processes and best practices.
  • Participate in talent development, performance management, and succession planning.

Engineering Oversight

  • Provide executive oversight of all engineering activities and deliverables.
  • Ensure designs align with constructability, operability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive standardization of engineering practices where appropriate.

Procurement, Strategic Sourcing & Contract Management

  • Lead strategic sourcing, supplier selection, and EPC contracting strategies.
  • Oversee RFPs, bid evaluations, negotiations, and contract awards.
  • Manage complex EPC and EPCM contracting approaches.
  • Drive cost savings and value engineering initiatives.

Construction & Field Execution

  • Provide senior oversight of construction execution and contractor performance.
  • Ensure effective interface management between engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
  • Support timely resolution of field execution issues and claims.

Stakeholder & Executive Communication

  • Communicate project status, risks, and progress to executives, investors, and lenders.
  • Prepare and present project updates and capital forecasts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an ABET-accredited university. Advanced degree (MS or MBA) preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the chemical, oil & gas, or energy industries, working in either an EPC or Owner/Operator capacity.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering large capital projects and managing project portfolios.
  • Strong expertise in cost control, scheduling, and project controls.
  • Experience with landfill gas, RNG, or pipeline infrastructure projects is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with lender and investor oversight is preferred.

Compensation Package

Base Salary

  • $180,000 – $220,000 annually (actual offer will be based on experience, skills, qualifications, market considerations, and geographic location).

Bonus

  • Eligible for performance-based bonus up to 20% of base Target.

Work Arrangement

This role is initially home-based with approximately up to 50% overnight travel required. Candidates must have access to a major airport within one hour of their residence. Future plans include opening an office in Charlotte, NC; candidates should be open to relocating to the Charlotte area for a hybrid work schedule.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to perform both office-based and field/site work. Field responsibilities include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights and in confined spaces, and wearing appropriate PPE. Employees must be able to work in outdoor and industrial environments with exposure to varying weather, noise, dust, and moving equipment while maintaining strong situational awareness and safety focus.
