senior electrical systems leader
Advastar, Inc. | Recruiting & Staffing
About the role
A large manufacturing (building materials) company serving the mission-critical infrastructure market is building out a new product line and needs a senior electrical systems leader to own it. This is a ground-floor opportunity to define and scale an electrical system that will be manufactured and deployed repeatedly into high-stakes environments — not manage one that already exists. The company has a proven track record of delivering complex building products at unprecedented speed, and they're bringing that model into one of the fastest-growing sectors in construction. If you're energized by building something that doesn't exist yet and you have the electrical chops to back it up, this is worth your time.
Compensation & Benefits
- Anticipate $150K-$190K+, dependent on experience
- Full Suite of Benefits: Health/Dental/Vision, 401K, PTO/Vacation, Performance bonuses
- Birmingham, AL area — approximately 55-65% on-site presence required
- Travel to active job sites as required (primarily Southeast and Southwest U.S.)
Role
- Own the electrical system for a high-value, repeatable product line from design through deployment
- Influence electrical distribution strategy, panelization approach, grounding systems, lighting and controls integration, and mission-critical interfaces during product definition
- Build and lead a dedicated electrical team: Electrical Project Manager, Electrical Designer, Electrical Manufacturing SME, and Electrical Construction Lead
- Partner with product, supply chain, manufacturing engineering, program leadership, and construction to drive component standardization and cost discipline
- Ensure electrical scope integrates into a manufacturing-based production environment with minimal field rework
- Align product design intent with site execution during early deployments; lead hands-on where needed
- Convert field performance data into structured product revisions that reduce variability and improve margin over time
Preferred Experience/Skills
- Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineer (preferred)
- 12+ years in commercial, industrial, or mission-critical electrical systems
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred; Master Electrician or equivalent demonstrated leadership also considered
- Strong electrical design background — ability to influence design decisions that eliminate downstream complexity is essential
- Prior leadership of cross-functional or dedicated electrical teams; individual contributors will not be considered
- Direct accountability for electrical cost performance, margin ownership, or large-scale budget control
- Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, grounding and bonding requirements, and power distribution systems
- Hands-on experience with switchgear, generators, UPS systems, utility coordination, and mission-critical redundancy architectures
- Ability to read and evaluate electrical design documents, specifications, and one-line diagrams
- Commissioning integration experience
- Data center or high-reliability environment background preferred; strong electrical distribution background also considered
- Open mindset — experience or genuine comfort with manufacturing, prefabrication, modular construction, or analogous environments (e.g., shipbuilding, industrial prefab) is a strong differentiator
