General Summary

Foundries.io was recently acquired by Qualcomm Innovation Center as an independent subsidiary. We enable OEMs across multiple industries to manage the software life-cycle for secure embedded devices based on Linux. FoundriesFactory is a SAAS platform that provides OEMs with tools to develop, deploy and maintain secure IoT & Edge devices, with key value propositions of accelerating time to market, simplifying security, and substantially reducing lifetime software costs. Successful deployments, ranging from Tier 1 OEMs to fast moving startups in multiple market segments, have proved our product market fit.

The role is for an experienced technical director and leader to work on open source strategy and implementation, to manage open source engineers to strengthen Foundries.io and Qualcomm open source offerings and reputation in the community and to work with an extensive partner network from an engineering perspective.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 8+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
  • OR Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 7+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
  • OR PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
  • 4+ years of work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in open source software development
  • Proven track record of managing teams working upstream and downstream
  • Strong understanding of embedded software, SAAS and Linux
  • Knowledge of key SoM vendors, ODMs, and distribution channels for SoC vendors
  • Excellent technical, communication and engineering management skills
  • Experience in managing relationships with key partners and stakeholders
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally with product and engineering teams
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Based in US (West Coast preferred), EU or UK
  • MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • Willingness to travel globally as needed (likely several times per year)
  • Prefer experience working closely with or for a Linux Distribution

Responsibilities

  • Manage developers working on OSS including U‑Boot, TFA, OP‑TEE, the Linux kernel as well as user space stacks and container technologies.
  • Architect, support and manage OSS/upstream initiatives within the Qualcomm Central Software Engineering (CSE) team.
  • Drive the growth of our partner ecosystem through delivering initiatives to align partners such as SiP and SoM suppliers, module makers and ODMs, with our long‑term OSS maintenance and support strategy.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, product, engineering and legal teams to ensure successful customer outcomes.
  • Track and report on KPIs related to OSS upstreaming activity, partner and community engagement.
  • Represent the company at industry events and conferences.
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices in relevant OSS projects.
  • Mentor and build expertise in the Foundries/Qualcomm OSS teams.
