THE TEAM

As part of the Engineering Division, which focuses on ensuring the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of all hotel assets, this role contributes to the strategic and operational excellence of the property. You will report directly to the Managing Director, collaborating closely with senior leadership, cross-functional departments, and external partners to uphold Rosewood’s standards of luxury and innovation.

YOUR ROLE

As Director of Engineering, you will lead the strategic direction and daily operations of the Engineering division, ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of the hotel’s physical assets. You will play a key role in driving energy efficiency, regulatory compliance, and guest satisfaction, while fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. This role is instrumental in shaping the future of the property through capital planning, sustainability initiatives, and team development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide visionary leadership to the Engineering team, cultivating a culture that reflects Rosewood’s values of relationship hospitality, precision, and authenticity.
  • Ensure all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, energy management) operate at peak performance with zero disruption to the guest experience.
  • Uphold and exceed Forbes Five-Star standards through meticulous attention to detail and proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Design and implement comprehensive preventative and predictive maintenance programs aligned with luxury service expectations.
  • Lead capital projects, renovations, and property enhancements, ensuring design integrity consistent with Rosewood’s aesthetic and local cultural influences.
  • Partner closely with Rooms, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and Wellness teams to deliver seamless, intuitive service environments.
  • Champion sustainability initiatives in alignment with Rosewood’s environmental commitments, including energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction efforts without compromising guest comfort.
  • Ensure full compliance with California regulations, including OSHA, environmental, and safety standards.
  • Oversee departmental budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance, optimizing cost efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Develop and maintain strong vendor and contractor relationships that reflect Rosewood’s standards of excellence.
  • Lead emergency preparedness, response, and crisis management with composure and precision.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, fire codes, and internal safety policies.
  • Represent Engineering in management and associate meetings, fostering cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Maintain readiness for Operational Management Reviews (OMR) and ensure timely follow-up on corrective actions.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering.
  • Proven experience in leading an engineering function at a senior management level.
  • Strong strategic thinking and project management capabilities.
  • Deep technical expertise across building systems and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated business & Financial acumen and experience managing complex budgets, including capital expenditure.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Effective relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Guest-centric mindset with a commitment to service excellence.
  • Analytical and data-driven decision-making approach.
  • Experience in hospitality or luxury environments preferred.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or equivalent
  • OSHA or advanced safety certifications

Pay: The salary range for this position is $165,000 to $180,000 annually. This is the pay range for this position that the Hotel reasonably expects to pay. This position is eligible for bonus. Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based on a number of factors, such as experience, type of hotel luxury experience, location, and education.
