Overview

We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Director of Engineering / Chief Engineer, also known as Hotel Nomad, to lead our engineering team. This pivotal role involves overseeing all maintenance and facilities management operations across our hotel residences, ensuring optimal functionality, safety, and guest satisfaction. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive management style, technical expertise, and a passion for creating a seamless environment for both guests and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a brand ambassador for AKA culture and brand standards and encourage all team members to do the same, ensuring effective communication and maintain harmonious working relationships between Engineering and all departments.
  • Complete assigned responsibilities in a timely manner and attend all required team meetings.
  • Perform daily walks of all areas of responsibility throughout the property especially all maintenance services performed in the residences, lobby and common areas and back of house to ensure a functional work area and brand standards of safety, spotless cleanliness, consistency, standardization and meticulous attention to detail are implemented and experienced by both guests and team members.
  • Work closely with the maintenance team to establish goals and measurements to enhance the overall guest service experience.
  • Respond to guest and team member concerns and service requests accurately and promptly.
  • Manage and lead the maintenance team, providing structure, motivation, coaching, guidance and positive encouragement.
  • Manage department's controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Manage parts, supplies and equipment inventories effectively by minimizing downtime and maximizing cash flow.
  • Oversee the hotel's Preventative Maintenance Program and all government regulations pertaining to building code, health, and fire and life safety programs.
  • Train all team members on proper maintenance of equipment and machinery while optimize maintenance operations by evaluating, coaching and counseling team members as needed
  • Schedule and assign daily maintenance tasks to team members, verifying quality and performance.
  • Recruit, interview and train new maintenance team members.
  • Schedule and communicate with appropriate departments or contracted vendor services to provide immediate solutions to any concerns that may arise.
  • Ensure property is up-to-date with all required licenses and certifications and aware of any relevant city, state, and federal law changes.
  • Ensure the property maintains a safe working environment and perform safety training for all team members working with equipment / machinery.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of prior experience in a Director of Engineering role at a hotel
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • All professional certifications and licenses required by city, state and/or federal law including HVAC Certifications, State Electrical board Certification
  • FLSD certificate - Required
  • Boiler license and Refrigeration license – QO1 Prefered
  • Sprinkler license S12-S13, Required
  • General Maintenance Skills; plumbing, electric, carpentry
  • Strong guest service, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Proactive, Energetic, self-motivating and ability to motivate others
  • Meticulous attention to detail and time management skills
  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays and be “on call”
