About the Role
Weâre seeking a Director of Engineering to lead and grow a civil/structural team within a specialized forensic engineering practice. This is a senior leadership position with a rare hybrid mandate: ensuring technical excellence while driving business performance, team development, and operational efficiency.
The Director will act as a bridge between technical delivery and business operations, supporting engineers in their work while managing budgets, utilization, and overall workflow. Itâs an opportunity for an experienced professional to shape both people and processes in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor engineers and technical staff, building a high-performance, collaborative culture.
- Oversee project workflows, quality standards, and timelines across multiple investigations.
- Manage business responsibilities including budgets, utilization, and profitability.
- Provide technical oversight for structural assessments, forensic investigations, and occasional expert testimony (1â2 per year).
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders; represent the organization at client and industry events.
- Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen efficiency and service delivery.
Qualifications
- Licensed P.Eng. (Ontario) with a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 10+ years in structural/civil engineering, ideally including forensic or failure analysis work.
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams.
- Strong business acumen (budgeting, P&L, resource planning).
- Broad technical knowledge (steel, concrete, masonry; wood or light-gauge steel design an asset).
- Familiarity with tools such as SAP2000, CAD; REVIT is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage engineers, clients, and courts.
