Senior Estimator/Director of Estimating

About

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Estimator/Director of Estimating to join our team in Surrey, BC with our large General Contractor. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing all aspects of the pre-construction process including cost estimating, bid preparation, subcontractor negotiation, and budgeting. This is a senior-level role ideal for someone with deep industry knowledge and a passion for construction excellence. Focused on Highrise and commercial projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects.
• Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed quantity takeoffs.
• Coordinate and lead the tendering process, including soliciting and analyzing subcontractor and supplier bids.
• Identify and mitigate project risks through thorough cost analysis and value engineering.
• Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure estimates align with project goals and budgets.
• Maintain and update historical cost databases and unit price trends.
• Review and evaluate post-tender results to improve future bidding accuracy.
• Mentor and support junior estimators and contribute to team development.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in estimating within the construction industry, preferably in the Greater Vancouver/Surrey region.
• Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of local construction methods, codes, and market conditions.
• Proficient with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Sage Estimating, Procore, MS Excel).
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams and stakeholders.
