About

The Director of Maintenance is responsible for leading and executing the overall maintenance strategy for mining operations, including mobile equipment, fixed plant assets, infrastructure, and support facilities. This role ensures safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of all equipment while driving continuous improvement in asset performance, maintenance systems, and workforce capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a site-wide maintenance strategy aligned with operational and business objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop maintenance managers, supervisors, planners, and trades personnel.
  • Build a culture centered on safety, accountability, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for:
    • Mobile mining equipment (haul trucks, loaders, drills, dozers, excavators)
    • Crushing, conveying, milling, and processing equipment
    • Electrical distribution systems, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary systems
  • Drive reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and root cause failure analysis (RCFA) initiatives.
  • Ensure effective use of CMMS systems for work order management, planning, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Develop shutdown, turnaround, and major rebuild strategies.
  • Optimize labor utilization, contractor performance, and maintenance scheduling.
  • Develop and manage annual operating and capital maintenance budgets.
  • Control maintenance expenditures while ensuring equipment reliability and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations, including Mine Safety and Health Administration standards and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements.
  • Lead incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
  • Support emergency response planning and risk management initiatives.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of maintenance leadership experience in mining, heavy industry, aggregates, metals, or similar industrial operations.
  • 5+ years in a senior leadership role managing large maintenance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy mobile equipment and fixed plant maintenance.
  • Experience with CMMS platforms such as SAP, IBM Maximo, or similar systems.
  • Strong understanding of reliability engineering principles.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineering (PE) certification or equivalent.
  • Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or reliability certifications (e.g., CMRP).
