We are seeking a highly capable operational leader to help scale the organization, improve execution quality, strengthen internal accountability, and support the next phase of company growth.

Position Overview

The Director of Operations & Practice will work closely with the President and leadership team to oversee day-to-day engineering operations, project execution, staffing coordination, internal accountability, and organizational performance.

This is not an administrative role.

We are looking for someone who can operate effectively in a fast-paced, technically demanding consulting environment and help drive execution across multiple simultaneous projects and teams.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, decisive, proactive, operationally strong, and capable of managing pressure in a professional engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Project Oversight

  • Oversee day-to-day engineering operations and project execution
  • Coordinate project workloads, staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation
  • Monitor project progress, deliverables, deadlines, and internal accountability
  • Work closely with PMs and technical leads to resolve operational bottlenecks
  • Identify risks early and ensure issues are escalated appropriately

Organizational Leadership

  • Improve operational structure, workflows, SOPs, and internal coordination
  • Help build a high-performance, high-accountability culture
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and team development
  • Assist with performance management and operational planning
  • Act as an operational bridge between leadership and project teams

Client & Practice Support

  • Support proposal coordination and project startup activities
  • Participate in client meetings and internal coordination meetings when required
  • Help maintain high standards of professionalism, responsiveness, and execution quality
  • Assist leadership in scaling the organization sustainably

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Support implementation and optimization of ERP, AI, and workflow systems
  • Help improve document control, operational reporting, and project tracking
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives across the organization

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years experience in engineering consulting, commissioning, construction management, or related professional services
  • Strong understanding of engineering project workflows and consulting operations
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and follow-up skills
  • Strong leadership presence and ability to drive accountability
  • Ability to operate effectively under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and complex clients

Preferred

  • Experience with government, institutional, healthcare, or federal projects
  • Background in electrical, mechanical, or building systems consulting
  • Experience in engineering operations and practice management
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, workflow automation, or AI-assisted operations
  • PMP designation or engineering background is an asset
