Head of API Platform / Responsable de la Plateforme API
Aduna Global
About the role
About Aduna
At Aduna, we’re building the backbone of the global API economy—connecting telecom operators, cloud platforms, and software innovators to power the next generation of digital services.
As Head of API Platform at Aduna, you will own the high-throughput system that aggregates CAMARA Network APIs and routes traffic to Communication Service Providers (CSPs) worldwide — covering operator discovery, authentication and authorization, API mediation, usage metering, and observability telemetry. Every enterprise transaction that flows through Aduna passes through the systems your organization builds and operates.
This is a leader-of-leaders role. You will manage engineering managers and principal engineers across multiple teams, set the multi-year technical and product strategy, and partner closely with Product, SRE, Security, and our CSP partners — balancing throughput and latency targets against correctness, compliance, and cost.
What You’ll Do
Organizational Leadership
- Build and lead a multi-team engineering org covering API aggregation, CSP routing, identity, metering, and telemetry.
- Manage engineering managers and ICs; grow the next generation of technical and people leaders.
- Create an ownership culture grounded in operational excellence and engineering rigor.
Strategy and Technical Direction
- Own the multi-year technical roadmap: API aggregation, routing, policy enforcement, identity, metering, and telemetry.
- Define reference architectures and platform standards for CAMARA API exposure, CSP onboarding, and traffic management at global scale.
- Drive adoption of new technologies across gateways, service mesh, and data pipelines without disrupting live traffic.
- Lead design reviews for consequential architectural decisions with the Principal Engineer community.
Platform Delivery and Operations
- Own availability, latency, and correctness SLOs end-to-end.
- Manage operating costs (egress, compute, pipelines) against performance and reliability commitments.
- Drive the reliability agenda in partnership with SRE: capacity planning, disaster recovery, failure-mode analysis.
- Ensure accurate, tamper-evident metering records and high-fidelity telemetry.
Identity, Security, and Compliance
- Oversee auth for CAMARA API consumers and CSP interactions: OAuth, OpenID Connect, CIBA, consent management.
- Meet regulatory, contractual, and operator requirements (data residency, PII, audits) with Security and Legal.
- Establish standards that keep the platform secure by default as it grows.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner with Product to translate customer and CSP commitments into a sequenced technical roadmap, with credible delivery milestones.
- Align with Finance on metering/billing implications and with Observability on telemetry contracts.
- Represent the platform in executive forums, escalations, and industry conversations.
What You Bring
Experience
- Bachelor's in CS, Engineering, or equivalent. Advanced degree a plus.
- 15+ years building large-scale distributed systems, API platforms, or high-throughput traffic management.
- 10+ years engineering management, including 5+ years managing managers globally.
- Executive-level communicator across engineers, product, customers, and leadership.
- Track record leading organizations through scale transitions and major architectural evolutions.
- Proven ability to deliver through leaders and build durable engineering culture.
- Background in low-latency, globally distributed systems with regulatory constraints.
Technical
- Deep expertise in API platforms and traffic management: API gateways, service mesh, routing, rate limiting.
- Strong identity and authorization background: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, mTLS, federated identity.
- Solid understanding of metering, billing, and usage pipelines (accuracy, idempotency, auditability).
- Working knowledge of observability: metrics, logs, traces, and telemetry contracts.
- Strong experience with Kubernetes, cloud-native networking, and multi-cloud environments (Azure, AWS).
- Fluency with infrastructure as code, progressive delivery, and GitOps practices (Terraform, FluxCD, GitLab CI or similar).
Soft Skills
- Business judgment balancing short-term delivery and long-term platform sustainability.
- Comfort in ambiguity; able to align multiple teams around a shared direction.
- Bias for enablement: building platforms that let other teams move fast.
