About
L3Harris is seeking an Engineering Management Director to lead Segment engineering performance cross-sector strategy and engineering discipline metrics for the Space & Mission Systems (SMS) segment. Reporting to the Sr. Director of SMS Engineering Operations and Performance, this leader will partner with the segment discipline leaders and sectors functional leads to drive engineering performance through engineering program metrics, discipline metrics and process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with deep engineering execution expertise who understands the program lifecycle process, leading-indicator program metrics and discipline productivity indices to drive engineering performance. This individual will excel at identifying and implementing initiatives that improve productivity and efficiency, ensuring that engineering processes are continuously optimized and aligned with organizational goals.
Essential Functions
- Performance Metrics & Analytics: Establish and oversee the KPIs that define engineering health, productivity, and quality
- Coordinate cross-sector engineering process improvement initiatives, best practices that increase segment-wide capability and efficiency
- Gate Rigor & Governance: Standardize and improve the technical review process (gate rigor) to ensure project milestones are met with high integrity and technical excellence
- Own the Engineering Technical Health Module roadmap for implementation in Corporate Program Digital Cockpit
- Command Media Transformation: Modernize and manage the organization's "Command Media" (policies, procedures, and standards), ensuring they are intuitive, digital-forward, and promote agility.
- Lead high-visibility, cross-functional initiatives that fall outside traditional product lanes, such as organizational restructuring or large-scale digital transformations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.
- Active Secret Clearance is required
- 8+ years of experience leading and developing engineering teams across multiple programs or sectors
- 8+ years of experience leading large DoD programs with significant engineering development
- 5+ years of experience developing engineering team strategies, leading with influence
- 5+ years of execution of improvement initiatives that drive successful engineering performance
- Prior or current professional experience implementing complex organizational processes
Preferred Additional Skills
- Expertise in engineering analytics, cost estimation models, and performance dashboards (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, or custom SQL-based tools) is highly preferred
- Advanced Degree: MBA or Master's in Engineering Management
- Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex technical performance data into a narrative for executive-level stakeholders
- Proven ability to rapidly establish credibility and trust with senior technical and business leaders
- Change Management: Demonstrated success leading large-scale cultural or procedural shifts within a technical workforce
- Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM) and lifecycle cost analysis
- Lean/Six Sigma: Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies
- Track record of successfully navigating complex organizational dynamics and building cross-functional partnerships
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with a track record of influencing across organizations
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range (California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, Greater D.C., Denver, NYC): $184,000.00 - $341,500.00
- Salary Range (Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Vermont): $160,000.00 - $297,000.00
