Documentation Process Lead/Technical Writer

Athena Consulting and Workforce Solutions

Reno · flexible Contract Lead $90k – $115k/yr Today

About the role

About

We are seeking an experienced Documentation Process Lead/Technical Writer to support a major client in Reno, Nevada through a critical documentation initiative. This is a high-visibility, client-facing engagement supporting position. We require the successful candidate to be based either in Reno, NV or in Las Vegas, NV. If based in Las Vegas you will be required to travel to Reno up to twice a month. This is not a remote role however if the project is on time and on budget working from home is acceptable.

This is a 6-month W2 contract engagement with a defined scope, clear deliverables, and a structured methodology. You will lead discovery, stakeholder facilitation, and workflow documentation across Oracle environments. You will be required to complete a library of workflow documentation that will be used by a number of stakeholders across the organization. You will drive decisions, facilitate alignment across competing stakeholder perspectives, surface process gaps, and own the quality and accuracy of every deliverable produced under this engagement.

What You Will Do

  • Develop step-by-step job aids for Oracle-based workflows using validated information provided by the Documentation Process Lead and SME walkthroughs
  • Capture, organize, and annotate screenshots at key workflow steps and decision points using screen capture tools (Snagit or equivalent)
  • Format and publish job aids in PowerPoint and PDF in accordance with established templates and documentation standards
  • Maintain version control and document naming conventions across the full job aid library
  • Build and maintain the SharePoint documentation library — organizing files, managing folder structures, and publishing finalized job aids
  • Maintain the master workflow index throughout the engagement
  • Incorporate stakeholder feedback through tracked changes and revision cycles
  • Coordinate with the Documentation Process Lead to ensure job aids accurately reflect confirmed workflow decisions
  • Proofread and quality-check all deliverables before submission to the client
  • Support the setup of documentation infrastructure in Week 1 including SharePoint structure, templates, naming conventions, and screenshot standards

What You Bring

Required:

  • 3+ years of experience in technical writing, instructional documentation, or SOP development
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, structured, step-by-step documentation for system-based workflows
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word as you use these tools daily and know them deeply
  • Experience with screen capture and annotation tools
  • Experience publishing and organizing documents in SharePoint
  • Exceptional attention to detail: you catch errors others miss and your formatting is always consistent
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple documents simultaneously, and meet deadlines without close supervision

Preferred:

  • Experience documenting Oracle, SAP, or similar enterprise system workflows
  • Familiarity with Oracle Unifier or Oracle Primavera Cloud
  • Background in infrastructure industry
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat for PDF publishing
  • Familiarity with Visio or Lucidchart for workflow diagrams
  • Experience working within a consulting or professional services delivery model
