Remote (Global) Contract Today

About the role

About

Seeking a technical writer/editor (not a generic grant writer) for a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) funding opportunity focused on recovery of rare-earth elements (REEs) from postconsumer magnet scrap. The project involves a novel modular separation system designed to selectively recover target materials (Nd/Pr) while reducing impurity interference (particularly iron). The system is currently at an early validation stage (TRL 3–4) and will be advanced to a prototype system (TRL 6) through this project.

Core technical content is already developed, including:

  • Statement of Project Objectives (SOPO)
  • System description and architecture
  • Interaction layer overview (high-level)
  • Performance targets
  • Process engineering inputs (in progress)
  • Techno-economic analysis (in progress)

This is NOT a blank-page proposal.

Scope of Work

  • Structure and organize content into a DOE-compliant 25-page Technical Volume
  • Refine and connect sections for clarity and logical flow
  • Align language with DOE evaluation criteria and scoring
  • Integrate inputs from process engineering and TEA/LCA
  • Improve readability for technical reviewers

Deliverables

  • Complete DOE Technical Volume (~25 pages)
  • Clean, structured, and consistent narrative
  • Reviewer-ready formatting and language

Requirements

  • Background in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Materials Science, or Energy Systems
  • Experience with DOE, ARPA-E, SBIR, or similar technical proposals preferred
  • Ability to work with complex technical content (not just general writing)

Budget

  • Fixed: $1,000 – $2,500 depending on experience

Timeline

  • Initial structured draft within 5–7 days

To Apply

Please include:

  1. Relevant technical writing or proposal samples
  2. Your background (engineering or technical domain)
  3. Experience with DOE or similar funding proposals

Notes

At this stage, system details will be shared at a high level only. More detailed information will be provided after NDA execution if required.

Goal

Produce a clear, technically credible, and well-structured submission that maximizes DOE reviewer scoring while building on existing technical content.
