Job Description
Join the dynamic Warfare Systems Business Group at HII‑Mission Technologies and contribute to mission‑critical applications supporting the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA)!
We are seeking a Front‑End Developer with UI/UX expertise to design and build intuitive, responsive web interfaces for security cooperation platforms, including tools aligned with DSCA standards and initiatives.
- Primary front‑end framework: React
- Role is fully remote, requires a Secret clearance, and focuses on creating user‑centered experiences that meet DoW accessibility guidelines, promote standardization through design systems, and support Executive Order‑driven transparency and efficiency.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Designs, develops, troubleshoots, debugs, configures and maintains website(s) for internal and external communications for the company and/or for external customers and clients.
- Ensures website(s) is available to the desired audience with appropriate links and security.
- Develops, assesses and communicates website usage and security policies and procedures.
- Designs web page layout, graphics, color schemes and infrastructure to maintain a cohesive website based on the organization's communications strategies and goals.
- Researches and evaluates new related technologies.
- Ensures software standards are met. Develop responsive, high‑quality web interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, and React (including hooks, functional components, and state management with Redux or Context API).
- Plan and conduct user research; analyze feedback, usability data, and analytics to understand user needs, motivations, and pain points in defense/security cooperation contexts.
- Develop user flows, wireframes, high‑fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes (using tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD) to visualize product design and functionality.
- Conduct usability testing with real users or stakeholders; identify issues, iterate on designs, and refine solutions to improve user experience and task efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including back‑end developers, product managers, data scientists, and DSCA stakeholders, to translate designs into production code, integrate APIs, and ensure seamless end‑to‑end functionality.
- Apply color theory, typography, layout principles, visual hierarchy, and interaction design to create aesthetically pleasing, intuitive interfaces that align with DSCA UI/UX design standards, style guides, and templates for consistency across applications.
- Implement design systems, reusable UI component libraries, and standardized patterns to promote maintainability, accessibility (WCAG/Section 508), cross‑browser compatibility, and performance optimization.
- Analyze system requirements, support architecture documentation, and provide input on design decisions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in user research, prototyping, usability testing, and iterative design.
- Experience with design tools (Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch), front‑end build tools (Webpack, Vite, etc.), and configuration management tools (e.g., Git, Nexus, Maven).
- Knowledge of accessibility standards, responsive design, and performance best practices.
- Ability to work independently while thriving in collaborative team settings. Self‑motivated initiator with strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach.
- Remote‑eligible position; must align with Eastern Time Zone core business hours.
- Clearance: Must possess and maintain an active Secret clearance.
Position Levels & Salary
UI/UX Website Designer II
- 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years’ experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.
- Salary: $90,000 – $105,000
UI/UX Website Designer III
- 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
- Salary: $115,000 – $130,000
Preferred Requirements
- Proficiency in React for building complex, responsive UIs, with experience in modern JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystems.
- Direct experience applying DSCA UI/UX design standards, style guides, or templates in DoW/security cooperation applications (e.g., Socium or related tools).
- Familiarity with DoD accessibility requirements (Section 508/WCAG), security marking tools, and classification handling in web interfaces.
- Experience integrating front‑end with back‑end APIs in secure environments (e.g., RESTful services, authentication flows).
- Understanding of AGILE software development methodologies and use of standard software development tool suites (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, GitHub).
- Experience in SAFe Agile environments, including participation in PI planning, Scrum/Kanban ceremonies, and DevSecOps practices.
- Portfolio or examples demonstrating UI/UX work in government/contractor settings, with emphasis on user‑centered design for complex enterprise systems.

- Ability to communicate effectively via phone, video, and in‑person meetings.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for long periods while performing job duties.
- Visual acuity to review detailed code and documentation on screens.
