Test Lead

About the Role

We are looking for a hybrid profile: a backend-oriented automated test developer, with the leadership and vision of a Test Lead. You will design, build, and evolve backend/component/integration/E2E test automation, drive the test strategy, and support teams in adopting effective practices. You will justify coverage at the right test level, decide what should be automated or maintained manually, and ensure fast and robust feedback in the CI/CD.

Essential Qualifications

• Bilingual: French and English.
• Agile/Scrum experience
• Good adaptability, teamwork, and communication skills
• Good knowledge of quality engineering; ISTQB certification appreciated
• Experience with Java (we use version 21)
• Knowledge of Confluence and Jira
• Knowledge of TestNG (testing framework), an asset
• Knowledge of Cypress and Selenium (front-end tests), an asset
• Knowledge of Jenkins and Maven, an asset
• Solid experience in backend/API test automation with Playwright (request context) or equivalent tools (Java/TypeScript desired).
• Mastery of microservices, REST/SOAP services, batch jobs, databases, messaging (e.g., Kafka/MQ).
• Demonstrated ability to design a test strategy and justify the choice of test level and scope of auto vs manual.
• Hands-on experience in mocking/stubbing, contract testing, data management, flakiness mitigation.
• CI/CD integration (reports, gates, artifacts) and sense of performance/observability.
• Leadership: coaching, governance, clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Assets

• Experience with Testcontainers, Pact (or equivalent), mutation testing, performance budgets, mocking and simulation.
• Regulatory/critical context, incident prevention, and MTTR reduction.
• TDD/BDD practices and quality gates.

Profiles Not Sought

• Frontend/UI test automation specialists or UI tool scripting (e.g., Katalon). The role is primarily backend-oriented with some frontend possibly required.
