About the role

About

Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. Here, everyone is part of the story. Part of a community that connects across the globe. A place where creativity thrives, new perspectives are invited, and ideas matter. A team where everyone makes play happen.

SEED is a pioneering group within Electronic Arts, combining creativity with applied research. We explore, build and help define the future of interactive entertainment.

We exist at EA to deliver and foster inspiring innovation for our games and our players. We do this through exploration, research, prototypes, and never-ending curiosity. We collaborate with game teams and industry partners and also publish our research within our industry and to the public. We pursue long-term applied research yet stay relevant to the present by delivering artefacts along the way to game teams and technology groups inside EA. Some of our research includes bringing digital characters to life, using machine learning for game AI and content creation, and developing novel real-time graphics & physics techniques.

We are looking for a Senior Software Developer to join our Generative Arts research vector to build next‑gen AI tools that empower artists to create game worlds of tomorrow. You will apply generative models across multiple domains while helping build these capabilities into transformative AI‑powered level creation technologies. You will collaborate with researchers and game developers to create technology that enables world‑class experiences for our players.

You excel at implementing novel solutions to turn research ideas and prototypes into scalable workflows that balance quality and performance in game production environments. You have a basic understanding of machine learning model optimization and its impact on interactive experience. You are experienced at bringing third‑party SDKs into creative tools and workflows. You will translate your ideas into functional demonstrations (e.g., demos) to guide innovation in a very practical way.

This is a hybrid remote/in‑office role from our SEED office in Montréal (Québec) or Vancouver (British Columbia). You will report to our Generative Arts research vector lead.

  • Translate research ideas and model capabilities into interactive tools with technical documentation.
  • Contribute to the delivery of GenAI technology, from the R&D workbench into products at EA, in partnership with game teams and central technology groups.
  • Collaborate with others at SEED on projects where your unique expertise will create novelty across SEED's projects that live at the intersection of many domains.
  • Collaborate with game teams and central technology groups to understand their requirements better and bring expertise in overlapping areas.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in game development, with shipped AAA or Indie games or having worked on a game engine.
  • Experience turning ideas into functional prototypes or demos.
  • Familiarity with digital content creation tools and game engines such as Unity, Unreal, Godot, or similar technologies.
  • Excellent programming abilities and ability to explain complex concepts.
  • Experience with compiled languages (e.g., C++).
  • Proficiency in Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment tools (Git, Perforce).
  • You work well within a team and want to collaborate with other researchers, engineers, artists, and designers.
  • A genuine interest in video games paired with a critical understanding of how games are built, including the ability to form your own insights on how we can improve them.

Additional Qualifications

  • A degree in Computer Science, a STEM field, or a related field.
  • You have an interest and basic understanding of AI and machine learning.
  • Experience deploying code in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud environments.
  • Openness to travel for conferences and visit teams across EA studios.
