The Opportunity
McElhanney is looking for an enthusiastic Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic Western Canada operations. From building systems and roadway lighting to traffic signals, controls, and land development, you’ll work on a wide variety of exciting projects. Collaborating with our multidisciplinary teams, you’ll help deliver innovative solutions across the region.
We’re seeking a self‑starter with strong communication skills and a passion for teamwork. Our electrical group includes engineers, technologists, and Red Seal electricians from diverse backgrounds, working together across BC and Alberta. We value collaboration, adaptability, and a shared commitment to excellence.
We would prefer the successful candidate to be based out of any of our offices located on Vancouver Island. However, considerations may be made for the ideal candidate.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare electrical designs and calculations focused primarily on building projects (residential, commercial, institutional).
- Draft electrical designs in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Assist design leads and project managers with client needs by participating in project meetings and liaising with the client.
- Conduct site investigations, construction progress reviews, and field reviews.
What You’ll Bring
- 2+ years of experience in electrical engineering.
- Project experience across commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial buildings.
- Experience in power distribution, communications, lighting, lighting controls, life‑safety (fire alarm, emergency lighting, and exit signs), and security systems.
- Registered or eligible for registration with EGBC as an EIT/P.Eng. in British Columbia.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills including strong communication and collaboration.
- Keen to learn new skills and take ownership of the assigned tasks.
- Comfortable in a fully digital environment and motivated to adapt new technologies and processes.
- Experience with drafting in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Experience in using AGI32 or Visual Lighting to conduct detailed lighting calculations of interior and exterior lighting systems.
What Can We Offer You?
Salary range: $70,000 – $90,000 per annum. Compensation is commensurate with education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range reflects the required level of qualifications and experience; the final salary will be based on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
