Turner Lovell is supporting a major international energy technology company delivering advanced power conversion, energy storage and grid integration solutions for the global energy transition. With strong growth globally, our client is expanding its engineering leadership team to support the delivery of BESS power plants for complex international projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to lead and develop a specialist electrical engineering team working across the full EPC lifecycle, from tender support and basic design through to detailed engineering, procurement support, FAT/SAT, commissioning and project takeover.
Your Role
As Electrical Engineering Manager, you will lead the electrical engineering team responsible for delivering the complete electrical scope of turnkey BESS projects. You will define priorities, allocate resources, manage workload across multiple international projects and ensure the quality, consistency and compliance of all electrical engineering deliverables.
You will play a key role in building a high-performing team, improving engineering standards and supporting the continued growth of a business unit focused on energy storage, power conversion and decarbonisation.
Responsibilities
- Lead, structure and develop the electrical engineering team across recruitment, training, workload planning and performance management.
- Define priorities and allocate engineering resources across multiple BESS EPC projects.
- Ensure on-time delivery of high-quality electrical engineering deliverables across projects in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
- Review and approve technical documents including specifications, calculation notes, single-line diagrams and layouts.
- Ensure compliance with IEC standards, international grid codes and project-specific requirements.
- Oversee HV/MV/LV design activities covering substations, transformers, switchgear, auxiliary systems and protection schemes.
- Supervise electrical studies including load flow, short circuit, cable sizing, protection coordination, earthing, harmonics, arc flash and insulation coordination.
- Support FAT/SAT activities and provide technical support during commissioning and project execution.
- Evaluate supplier technical offers, support bid evaluations and manage relationships with key electrical equipment suppliers.
- Develop and improve engineering tools, templates, technical guides, dashboards and calculation methods.
- Drive continuous improvement, standardisation of equipment and technology watch across IEC, IEEE, CIGRE and grid code topics.
- Collaborate with Application Engineering, Project Management, R&D, Commercial, Commissioning and O&M teams.
- Support tendering activities through electrical sizing, bill of quantities, technical risk identification and engineering hours estimation.
Ideal Candidate
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Electrotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical engineering, ideally within power systems, HV/MV/LV substations, BESS, renewable energy or EPC projects.
- Previous team leadership or management experience would be highly valuable.
- Strong technical knowledge of HV/MV/LV power systems, transformer specification, protection coordination, cable sizing, earthing and lightning protection.
- Experience with electrical studies such as load flow, short circuit, harmonics, arc flash and insulation coordination.
- Knowledge of IEC standards including IEC 60076, 62271, 61439, 60287, 60909 and 62305.
- Familiarity with tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, AutoCAD, Elecalc, DIGSI 5, PCM600 or Easergy Pro.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI and Planner for KPI tracking, task planning and workload management.
- Strong leadership, organisation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluent French and English, both written and spoken.
- Willingness to travel internationally
