About the Role

We are looking for a motivated Electronic Engineering Intern. In this role, you will be at the forefront of Edge AI technology, working directly with the BrainChip Akida™ neuromorphic processor. You will play a key role in assembling, validating, and supporting the development kits that enable our customers to build the next generation of AI‑enabled devices. Must be located in Orange County and be in the office minimum 4 days a week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hardware Assembly & Prototyping
    • Assist in the assembly and configuration of Akida development kits (PCIe cards, Shuttle PCs, and SoC boards).
    • Flash firmware and install Linux‑based drivers and SDKs onto development platforms.
  • Testing & Quality Assurance
    • Execute hardware validation protocols to ensure kits meet functional specifications.
    • Utilize lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers) to debug signal integrity or power delivery issues.
    • Run benchmarking scripts to verify the performance of Akida neural processing units (NPUs).
  • Technical Support & Documentation
    • Maintain internal hardware logs and inventory of development assets.
    • Assist in drafting "Quick Start" guides and troubleshooting documentation for end‑users.
    • Support the senior engineering team in reproducing bugs reported by customers.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a B.S. or M.S. program in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Embedded Systems: Strong understanding of microcontroller architectures and peripheral interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe).
  • Operating Systems: Proficiency in Linux (Ubuntu/Debian) environment, including terminal usage and shell scripting.
  • Programming: Basic proficiency in Python (for testing scripts) and/or C/C++ (for firmware).
  • Hands‑on Lab Skills: Experience with PCB debugging and standard electronic test equipment.

Additional Details

  • Duration: Approximately 3 months (flexible start depending on university’s summer schedule; example May–June start; end Aug/Sept).
  • Compensation: $28 per hour.
  • Hours: 25 hrs per week (or more).
