Position Summary
The Analyst will support the implementation of energy projects worldwide. This will include support in conducting studies related to grid integration and stability, conducting site measurements, performing technical analyses, and preparing client reports. The analyst will also support business development efforts, support senior staff with technical analyses, support with the writing of expressions of interest. This is a full-time position and will report to the Senior Director in South Africa.
Essential Job Functions
Technical
- Support senior team members on power system analysis, including load flow, short circuit, dynamic and transient stability, harmonics, protection, arc flash, electromagnetic transient (EMT) switching and insulation coordination studies using software such as PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD, and EMTDC
- Assist in governor and AVR modeling including user-defined models and carry out modeling of battery storage, wind and solar PV generation including master controllers
- Assist with modelling of SVC, SCO and STATCOM, and support inverter modeling activities, including grid-forming (GFM) inverters in consulting assignments
- Help automate power system simulation studies using scripting tools such as Python
- Assist in the high-level Substation and Overhead Line design for feasibility studies and performance specifications
- Analyze simulation outputs and test data, and prepare summaries and observations for review by senior team members
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Project Management
- Support in providing research and data collection for the production of reports and presentation to clients.
- Under the guidance of senior team members, interact and coordinate with experts from other Tetra Tech operating units, as necessary
Business Development
- Support senior team members in drafting technical inputs and the writing of expressions of interest and responses to proposals for business development and marketing efforts

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Knowledge of Python programming language
- Advanced IT literacy and numeracy skills with advanced proficiency in the MS Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams
- Ability to return to first principles and academic literature to resolve complex technical problems
- Adaptable and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Able to confidently build and maintain external and internal relationships
- A systematic, logical approach to problem solving
- Detail-oriented and careful approach to completing assignments
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and client needs
- Highly motivated to learn on the job and undertake training
- Full professional proficiency in both spoken and written English
- Strong research capabilities, using a variety of primary and secondary sources
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate degrees in engineering
- Prior experience in a technical role for an energy consulting firm
- Commercial awareness
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and using a computer
Work Environment / Schedule
- Work schedule: Monday – Friday, standard core business hours (8:30 AM – 5:30 PM local time); some flexibility required but must with overlap core business hours for team collaboration and occasionally overlap with United States eastern standard time business hours
- The position is fully remote with occasional in person team meetings or corporate events
- Travel requirements: Travel internationally up with an estimated 20% of time to visit utilities, national control centers, substations, project sites and power plants to collect data, via measurements, as necessary.
