DNA Script
About the role
About DNA Script
DNA Script is a leading company in the production of nucleic acids for genomic, synthetic biology and biopharmaceutical applications.
Our clean, efficient Enzymatic DNA Synthesis (EDS) technology, implemented on a benchtop instrument (the SYNTAX), accelerates innovation in life science and biotechnology through the decentralization of rapid, on demand and high quality DNA synthesis.
Our approach builds upon nature's billions of years of evolution in enzymatically synthesizing DNA, setting new standards for assembling nucleic acids to accelerate scientific discovery and DNA/RNA production in disciplines with profound impacts upon humanity.
DNA Script has a broad stable of high quality investors and is capitalized to continue its progress to full commercialization of the technology and products. We are building a global organization, with the talent, skills and attitude to achieve our mission: to unlock the power of "DNA-write".
This is an opportunity for a dynamic individual to join an international and highly skilled team, and to make significant contributions to commercializing a technology with far-reaching potential across the biological sciences and beyond.
The Role
DNA Script is looking for a dynamic and talented System Integration Engineer to join the Hardware team, a part of DNA Script's Product development department.
Even if an instrument has already been commercialized, the research and development to improve its capabilities – or implement brand new ones – will never end. The associated protocols, usually developed on a bench by specialized scientists, then need to be adapted to an automated device, and implemented on the commercial instrument for clients to use. Immediate examples would be the improvements of final quantity, throughput, and robustness as well as global biochemistry performance.
The role will consist in driving the implementation of these updated protocols. You will test them firsthand on the instrument, troubleshoot upcoming issues, and propose design suggestions to solve them. The final goal is to ensure the company delivers a reliable product, in line with the targets set – usually measured in quantity, quality and performance of the synthesized DNA strands.
The candidate will need to quickly master a complex biotech instrument. This includes both:
- the comprehension of the company core technology, and the different reagents it requires along with the way to use and handle them.
- the comprehension of the instrument functioning, in terms of hardware (movements, fluidics, thermal regulation) and software (source code or development tools)
You will work in a fast-paced, international, and challenging environment, with a direct impact on the company core product. The position will require transversal and interdisciplinary communication with the different company teams.
Your missions
- Be responsible for the maintenance and operation of an automated liquid handler, as well as for writing new scripts and associated protocols
- Experimental design to optimize the gene assembly workflow, particularly the steps that need to be adapted for automation
- Conduct in-depth analysis of experimental data, write reports, and present results
- Present regular reports to all levels of the organization
- Actively contributes to critical phases of the business, with a willingness to work beyond one's immediate area of expertise when necessary
Qualifications and Experiences
Requirements
- Engineering degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or automation in link with life science
- 3 to 5 years' experience in biotech, life science or chemistry R&D lab
- Knowledge in automation
- Interest for the company's technology and biotech in general
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with researchers, software engineers, hardware engineers.
- Fast-learner, autonomous, and versatile individual
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and systematic troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Team player
- Good level in English
Additional
- Experience with motors, pumps, pipettors and/or vacuum
- Experience in molecular biology, especially related to nucleic acids
- Coding skills (Python, JavaScript, Linux)
