About the role
Job Title
Engineering & Maintenance
Purpose
Repairs and maintains automation equipment related to grain elevator and packaging production by performing diagnostic testing and repairs on pneumatic, basic electrical fault finding (i.e. solenoids, limit switches, etc.), mechanical systems and basic welding fabrication.

Reports to the COO
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair/maintain equipment and machinery
- Set up changeovers per floor schedule
- Meet with supervisors and ensure that equipment will be ready for product or packaging changes
- Verify line speed is adequate for equipment capabilities
- Complete paperwork accurately and on required schedule
- Keep tools tidy, well organized, and in good working order
- Ability to work with others as part of a team is essential
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Competencies
Electrical
- Electrical AC/DC with competencies up to 480-volt AC and 90-volt DC. Experience with motors and drives, both AC and DC
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
- Experience with all types of switches and sensors, including high speed counters and sorters
- Programmable Logic Controller (PLC): Experience with Allen Bradley and GE‑Fanuc PLCs, AC and DC I/O cards, high speed counter cards, stepper motor control cards and operator interface controls.
- Knowledge of ladder logic, program sequencing, and PC diagnostic tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot PLC and control interface problems, including program downloads.
- Ability to multi‑task and change focus from job to job
- Ability to effectively prioritize jobs to meet time‑critical demands and quotas.
Mechanical
- Experience with power transmission systems including gear reducers, roller chain systems, and belt and link conveyors.
- Experience with pneumatic systems including solenoid valves and motion controls.
Fabrication
- MIG and/or stick welding proficiency necessary.
Other
- Ability to use a mill is a plus.
- Able to safely operate a forklift, hand jack, hydraulic crane, and other powered equipment.
- Must be knowledgeable in pneumatics, blueprint/schematic reading (mechanical/electrical), welding, using shop equipment, and fabrication.
- Must possess a basic electrical background with experience in troubleshooting.
- Must be flexible to work overtime as needed.
- No fear of heights. Ability to climb towers and grain elevators and work in tight spaces is essential.
- Computer literate and able to procure industrial parts online through distributors or other sites.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED and 3 plus years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated problem solving and mechanical skills are also required along with the ability to communicate in English, clearly, both in writing and verbally.
Mathematical Skills
Must possess the ability to perform basic mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Work Environment
Industrial/warehouse, indoors and outdoors. Sanitary conditions – must wear hair and/or beard nets, hard hat, and safety glasses. High noise level environment.
Physical Demands
Must be on feet much of the day, climb, reach, kneel, and work in close quarters repairing equipment and machinery.
