Job Summary
A leading engineering and construction services organization is seeking a Department Manager – Electrical to oversee multi-team project execution within utility infrastructure programs. This role is responsible for (1) leading and managing field and project teams to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time delivery, (2) driving process improvements, training, and operational excellence across the department, and (3) supporting client engagement, project planning, and financial performance. This position is critical in ensuring successful project execution while maintaining safety, quality, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple teams supporting electric construction and utility infrastructure projects
- Oversee project execution to ensure delivery on time, within scope, and within budget
- Develop, refine, and enforce operational processes, policies, and performance standards
- Drive training initiatives and track development of team members
- Evaluate team performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and clients to ensure alignment with project goals and standards
- Facilitate meetings related to safety, project updates, resource planning, and program initiatives
- Oversee development of proposals, project scopes, schedules, budgets, and change orders
- Manage departmental financials, reporting, and strategic initiatives
- Support recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of team members
- Identify and mitigate operational and project-related risks
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field (Electrical Engineering preferred)
- 10–15+ years of experience in construction, utilities, or infrastructure environments
- Prior experience managing multiple teams and overseeing large-scale projects
- Experience with project planning, budgeting, and resource allocation
Special Requirements
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed
- Ability to work in field environments and adhere to safety protocols
- Ability to pass required pre-employment and ongoing compliance screenings
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of electric utility construction, infrastructure, and project execution
- Ability to lead large teams and manage cross-functional collaboration
- Experience with project scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera, MS Project) and analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI)
- Strong understanding of construction processes, equipment, and safety standards
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software tools
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Additional Desired Characteristics
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Experience with electrical distribution systems and substation projects
- Familiarity with construction drawings and field inspections
- Experience with procurement processes and material management
- Knowledge of project analytics and reporting tools
Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid environment within a regional location, including both office and field settings. The role requires regular travel to project sites and client locations. Work conditions may vary depending on project demands, with a strong emphasis on safety and compliance.
