A Day in the Life of the Engineering Manager
In this role, you’ll lead a mission‑driven team of engineers focused on building reliable, high‑availability software that improves the experience of dental professionals and their patients. You’ll shape technical strategy, mentor engineers, and guide your team toward delivering impactful solutions. Working closely with product and senior leadership, you’ll help align engineering efforts with company goals while continuously improving development practices and delivery processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a mission‑focused team of software engineers delivering market‑leading solutions
- Recruit, mentor, and retain engineering talent while fostering a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Support team leaders and engineers in meeting mission objectives and delivery commitments
- Remove workflow obstacles and improve processes to enable continuous delivery at scale
- Ensure products remain secure, compliant, and highly reliable for customers
- Collaborate with senior leadership on engineering vision and technical strategy
- Partner closely with product leadership to deliver on strategic initiatives
- Build strong cross‑functional relationships to improve the overall user experience
- Mature engineering practices and processes to support global growth and scalability
- Influence technical and organizational decision‑making across teams and departments
Requirements and Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive software development experience
- Strong technical expertise with modern development practices and the ability to contribute to architecture and code when needed
- Experience balancing leadership responsibilities with hands‑on technical contribution in a player‑coach role
- Proven experience implementing or improving continuous delivery pipelines and deployment practices
- Excellent experience prioritizing and balancing technical debt, bug fixes, innovation, and new feature development while aligning with business goals
- Strong experience contributing code and providing architectural guidance while leading a team
