Summary

The Engineering Manager designs mobile equipment for Miller Industries Towing Equipment, Inc. that is actuated hydraulically or pneumatically and controlled mechanically or electrically. This role will lead and manage a team of Design Engineers who assist with design tasks and have their own design projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Product Design

• Runs their own design projects to develop towing products using CAD

• Works with R&D to build prototypes

• Designs and executes tests as part of new product development

• Works with manufacturing to support new product launches and solve existing product issues

People Management & Leadership

• Manages Design Engineers through staffing, pay decisions, evaluation, supervision, and process policies

• Leads initiatives with other departments to identify potential products, projects, or opportunities

• Works within a project team organizational structure to accomplish project goals

• Assists the Design Engineers’ management of their projects with topics including requirement analysis, enforcement of stage gates, cost estimation, scheduling, participating in design reviews and brainstorming meetings, and coordinating activities with stakeholders

• Monitors schedules and deadlines and prioritize projects to ensure timely delivery and customer satisfaction

• Collaborates with all affected parties to make design changes (sales, accounting, customer service, operations, vendors or customers)

• Occasional travel, foreign or domestic

• Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering

• Must have 3D CAD design experience, ideally PTC Creo (Formerly Pro/E)

• Must have an aptitude for project management, people management, and heavy mobile equipment design

• Must have excellent communication skills

• Must be a self-starter and able to accomplish expected tasks under minimal supervision; ability to multi-task and maintain composure under pressure
