We still make the trailers we’re known for, but we have expanded our product lineup to help meet the growing demand for energy in North America.

THE ROLE

The Engineering Manager leads all TYCROP Trailers' product engineering staff and plans, monitors and controls all TYCROP Trailers' product engineering activities. including those activities related to the development of new, and the optimization and support of existing, products.

The goal of this position is to develop and deliver new, quality products to the market with speed and to optimize the cost effectiveness, quality and market relevance of existing products.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifies and ensures the adoption, documentation and consistent employment of industry-leading engineering practices for new product development, product optimization and product life-cycle support
  • Compiles and maintains documentation of engineering standards and best practices
  • Develops and monitors metrics to identify the performance of the group and its processes and employs corrective actions as required
  • Ensures that resources are available with appropriate skills and training to meet the needs of the product development plan and fulfill the operational responsibilities of the department
  • Develops and maintains the corporate intellectual property portfolio and strategy
  • Creates project teams and monitors and controls project activities to ensure compliance with time, cost and quality objectives
  • Assesses risk and implements appropriate risk mitigation and verification strategies for all product development activities
  • Supervises technicians, technologists and other engineers and reviews and approves designs, calculations and cost estimates
  • Reviews and approves designs, calculations and cost estimates
  • Leads the Engineering Team and is therefore responsible for the following practices:
  • Documentation of product intent and verification of conformance to customer requirements
  • Translation of customer needs and value opportunities into tangible concept features and products
  • Verification of product fitness-for- purpose, cost-effectiveness, compliance and risk mitigation
  • Creation and maintenance of customer product documentation
  • Provision of product engineering support to TYCROP Trailers sales activities
  • Provision of appropriate instruction to manufacturing for efficient steady-state production
  • Provision of engineering support to any relevant stakeholder throughout the product lifecycle
  • Supports company mission, vision, budgets, goals and objectives
  • Provides a working environment that is safe, clean and healthy
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia, or immediately eligible for such registration
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience with process improvement, project management and strategic planning

KEY COMPETENCIES:

  • Fluent technical communication
  • Use of standard office software
  • Mechanical engineering design
  • Solid modelling, experience in Solidworks
  • Assessment of appropriate design for manufacture and design for service
  • Assessment of appropriate structural integrity, which may require the application of classical structural engineering calculation or finite element analysis
  • Design, conduct and documentation of prototyping activities
  • Project and resource management
  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills
  • Possesses a passion for delivering excellent internal and external customer service

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is primarily office-based but requires regular visits to the production floor and occasional travel to supplier sites. This role may require working outside of regular business hours to address urgent supply chain issues.
