What You Will Do

Oversee a team of Product Development Engineers, guiding them to achieve quality and new item creation goals. Develop a pipeline of projects focused on enhancing quality and generating warranty savings to meet key performance indicators (KPIs). Collaborate with the Sourcing team to align resourcing strategies that improve product quality and cut warranty costs. Coordinate warranty savings KPIs with sourcing KPIs to ensure overall cost reduction.

Manage all tool repair and service centers throughout North America, partnering with both internal and external facilities to advance quality initiatives and shorten turnaround times. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for effective interactions with field staff and customers.

Support new item creation through competitive benchmarking and targeted research to identify the strongest product opportunities. Create and maintain technical documentation, review designs for compliance with company and ASTM standards, and define robust test criteria for new offerings. Use tensile, torque, hardness, and other lab equipment to validate performance and reliability for both new and existing tools.

This is an on-site role located in Stow, Ohio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Engineering team to achieve product quality and warranty reduction KPI targets
  • Create a tracking funnel for all warranty and quality projects
  • Track top warranty items by number of defects and cost
  • Manage the performance of internal and external repair centers to meet KPI targets
  • Track turnaround time both repair time and delivery turnaround
  • Conduct weekly meetings with struggling centers to focus on remediation
  • Travel to repair centers to review quality processes
  • Support new product development by evaluating new tools and completing the New item Creation (NIC) process
  • Acquire specifications/drawings/testing/application data
  • Assist with the creation of equipment design, manufacturing and test specifications
  • Perform Product testing on new and existing tools
  • Internal lab testing
  • 3rd party external testing
  • Field testing
  • Perform data analysis for new and existing warranty agreements with suppliers
  • Attend supplier review meetings and provide Engineering and Quality feedback to the scorecard
  • Respond to Customer Service requests for engineering and quality expertise through the Epost-it process
  • Author field communications for quality related concerns

Who You Are (Qualifications)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively to C-suite
  • Results driven
  • Exceptional data analysis skills
  • Experience with material testing equipment
  • Automotive industry experience
  • Hands-on automotive repair experience both mechanical and electrical
  • Prior manufacturing quality experience
  • Formal problem-solving training and successful execution of its tools
  • Ability to interpret and understand ASTM standards
  • 10% travel or less. May include one international trip per year
  • Current passport

Position Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years experience in a people leadership role
  • Minimum three years’ experience in material testing and comparison to industry standards
  • Minimum three years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with SolidWorks 2D print creation and 3D modeling
  • Hands-on automotive experience with an excellent working knowledge of automotive tools
  • Minimum two years’ experience with problem solving strategies (5 Why)
  • Database / Business Intelligence System Query Writing and Analysis
  • Proficient with Microsoft office Suite (Specifically Excel and Access)
