Responsibilities
The Optical Technology Center in Böblingen is Keysight’s global engineering and technology hub for optical, electro‑optical, and high‑frequency co‑packaging solutions. We enable new products and early manufacturing by developing differentiated manufacturing technologies, processes, and tooling for next‑generation optical instruments and opto‑electrical systems.
As Engineering Manager for the Optical Technology Center, you lead a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for process development, technology introduction, and engineering support across optical, electro‑optical, and hybrid manufacturing. You ensure technical excellence, scalable solutions, and close alignment with product introduction programs, R&D, and operations.
Your Assignment Includes
- Leading and developing the engineering team, including process, manufacturing, and product engineers.
- Manage process and product engineering throughout the product lifecycle.
- Own product and line quality, covering yield, reliability, failure analysis, and ongoing improvement.
- Act as engineering interface and owner toward manufacturing, ensuring robust product and process introductions, transfers, and long‑term stability.
- Leading process development, qualification, and scaling from prototype to volume production.
- Collaborating with R&D and program teams to optimize manufacturability, quality, reliability, and cost.
- Providing technical leadership and guidance across processes, products, and manufacturing end-to-end.
- Introducing tools, automation, and software-driven manufacturing concepts and solutions.
- Contributing to strategic initiatives, translating technology roadmaps into executable engineering plans.
- Building a strong engineering culture focused on technical excellence, ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in electrical engineering, photonics, physics, or a related technical field.
- Several years of experience in optical, electro‑optical, semiconductor, or high‑frequency technology development or manufacturing.
- Proven people‑leadership experience leading engineering teams in a high‑tech environment.
- Strong technical background in one or more of the following areas: optical alignment, photonic integrated circuits (PIC), electro‑optical packaging, hybrid manufacturing, RF‑optical systems, or advanced hybrid assembly processes.
- Experience owning process and product quality over the full product lifecycle.
- Experience supporting product introductions and technology transfer to mass‑manufacturing sites.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing process development, yield management, reliability, and quality methodologies.
- Ability to operate effectively across global, cross‑site engineering and manufacturing networks.
- Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills across disciplines, cultures, and seniority levels.
- Fluent in English and German
