My client is a market leader in heavy industrial manufacturing, where operational excellence and asset reliability drive profitability. They operate a complex, high-stakes plant environment where downtime is not an option. To strengthen their leadership bench, they are seeking a seasoned, assertive Engineering Manager who can take full ownership of the maintenance strategy and execution.
The Opportunity
This is not a desk job. We need a hands-on leader with a valid GCC (Mines & Works) who thrives on solving real-world engineering challenges. You will lead the Engineering team, own plant availability, and drive a culture of preventive maintenance, zero harm, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities: People, Plant & Performance
Strategic Maintenance & Reliability
- Champion preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to maximize plant uptime
- Lead major shutdown planning and execution with precision
- Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and implement permanent fixes to eliminate recurring failures
- Embed quality assurance across all maintenance work and installations
Operational & Financial Control
- Manage the maintenance budget, optimizing spares holding and contractor costs
- Lead emergency response for breakdowns and recoveries
- Report on key reliability metrics (such as MTBF, Reliability Factor, OEE, Schedule Attainment) to leadership
Team Leadership & Development
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE (NON-NEGOTIABLES)
- Education: B.Eng or BTech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Certification: GCC (Government Certificate of Competency) for Mines & Works – must be valid and current
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 8 years of maintenance experience in heavy industry (e.g., cement, mining, steel, paper & pulp, sugar, or large-scale manufacturing)
- Minimum 5 years in a formal management role (leading teams, performance management, IR)
- Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of maintenance systems (CMMS), hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, crushers, mills, and kilns
- Soft Skills: Assertive, excellent people skills, and credible in the workshop and the boardroom
Advantageous:
Previous experience in the Cement Industry or related heavy process industry
