We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Identity Accounts team, which serves as the foundational platform for every user, organization, and account at Coinbase. This team is critical to our operations, managing authentication, authorization, security settings, and account management for millions of customers across our products. As a leader, you will guide engineers across three specialized sub-teams, ensuring successful roadmap execution while partnering closely with your Tech Lead and Product Manager. You will represent the team to over 20 internal product groups and key stakeholders in Security, Risk, Compliance, and Design. This position is ideal for those who excel at combining technical challenges with leadership across diverse teams. Responsibilities: • Lead and nurture a team of engineers across multiple specialties, including backend, frontend, and site reliability, by focusing on hiring, mentorship, and professional growth.

• Oversee the roadmap for three dedicated sub-teams: Foundations (authorization architecture), Users Platformization (modernizing the legacy system), and Settings & Account Management (enhancements to security settings and navigation).

• Ensure reliability and operational excellence for our top-tier services, maintaining a target uptime of 99.99%, and lead efforts during critical incidents to maintain service integrity.

• Act as the primary representative of your team to internal partners in Security, Risk, Compliance, and Design, fostering alignment and ensuring effective integration.

• Collaborate with your Tech Lead and Product teams to formulate strategic roadmaps, prioritize tasks, and convert complex challenges into clear, scalable solutions.

• Advocate for engineering excellence by establishing and upholding coding standards, encouraging thorough code and design reviews, and ensuring reusability across our products.

• Streamline processes for internal customers by reducing onboarding time for new product teams to under two weeks, delivering robust APIs, and providing comprehensive documentation and support.

Qualifications: • A minimum of 7 years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in an engineering management role leading teams of 5 or more.

• A proven record of successfully deploying large-scale distributed systems used by millions of users.

• Deep technical understanding of coding, architecture, API design, and operational trade-offs, with the ability to engage hands-on when necessary.

• Strong communication skills, capable of constructing clear, coherent narratives that align the organization and effectively represent your team to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.

• Experience in building and scaling high-performing engineering teams through strategic hiring, talent development, and promotion.

• A demonstrated ability to utilize generative AI tools responsibly to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness in work processes.

Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in identity management, authentication, authorization, or enterprise account systems.

• History of leading a platform-oriented team or a similar domain with significant internal dependencies.

• Familiarity with our technology stack, including Go, gRPC, React, SpiceDB, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and Datadog.

• A background in developing financial systems with high reliability or security standards.

Job #: P76362 Salary Transparency: The annual base salary for this position ranges from $218,025 to $256,500, excluding equity and bonus eligibility.
