Engineering Manager - Mechanical (HVAC Design)

About the Opportunity

I'm working with a well-established mechanical contractor that is looking to bring on an Engineering Manager to lead HVAC design efforts while still staying hands-on in the work.

This is not a "sit back and manage" role. You'll be actively involved in design while leading a small, high-performing engineering team and collaborating closely with Project Managers to drive projects forward.

If you're a licensed Mechanical Engineer who still enjoys the technical side but wants leadership responsibility, this is the sweet spot.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and mentor a team of 2 engineers while working alongside ~10 Project Managers
• Stay hands-on with HVAC system design across multiple project types
• Oversee design quality, accuracy, and coordination from concept through completion
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure designs align with project timelines and budgets
• Review drawings, calculations, and specifications for compliance and efficiency
• Support project execution by bridging the gap between engineering and operations

What They're Looking For

• Mechanical PE license (required)
• ~10+ years of HVAC design experience
• Strong background in building systems design
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
• Ability to balance technical design work with leadership responsibilities
