About the Opportunity
I'm working with a well-established mechanical contractor that is looking to bring on an Engineering Manager to lead HVAC design efforts while still staying hands-on in the work.
This is not a "sit back and manage" role. You'll be actively involved in design while leading a small, high-performing engineering team and collaborating closely with Project Managers to drive projects forward.
If you're a licensed Mechanical Engineer who still enjoys the technical side but wants leadership responsibility, this is the sweet spot.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and mentor a team of 2 engineers while working alongside ~10 Project Managers
- Stay hands-on with HVAC system design across multiple project types
- Oversee design quality, accuracy, and coordination from concept through completion
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure designs align with project timelines and budgets
- Review drawings, calculations, and specifications for compliance and efficiency
- Support project execution by bridging the gap between engineering and operations

What They're Looking For
- Mechanical PE license (required)
- ~10+ years of HVAC design experience
- Strong background in building systems design
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
- Ability to balance technical design work with leadership responsibilities
