Engineering Manager

Your Role

You are a hands-on Engineering Manager who combines strong programming skills with leadership. You actively work on our product, but above all, you take responsibility for processes, team coordination, and the interface between Engineering and Management.

Our Product

Cera — an AI agent that automates logistics processes: from email capture to price negotiation to order submission. Built with Python (Django), React (TypeScript), Azure, and LLM integration at its core.

Role Distribution

• ~60% Management & Coordination (Team, Processes, Alignment) • ~40% Hands-on Coding (Features, Bug Fixes)

Your Mission With Us

• You are a developer and engineering leader at the same time — you write production-ready code and simultaneously manage processes, priorities, and delivery. • You act as a central interface between the engineering team and management — you translate business requirements into actionable technical plans and report progress and risks. • You ensure that decisions are made clearly, communicated, and implemented — you don't leave anything hanging in the collective. • You work closely with the Director People & Leadership on team building, performance, and development. • You represent the engineering team in cross-functional meetings with Product, Commercial, Legal, and Management. • You coordinate collaboration with external stakeholders on strategic and technical topics. • You conduct regular 1:1s, provide constructive feedback, and ensure individual development. • You work closely with our product colleagues in the team — you understand product requirements, challenge them if necessary, and ensure that engineering and product pull together. • You help to continuously improve development processes (sprint planning, release coordination, incident response).

How You Fit With Us

• You have at least 5 years of experience in software development, ideally with Python — alternatively, you are an experienced senior developer with a different focus and the willingness to learn Python. • You have experience in the technical or disciplinary leadership of development teams — including regular 1:1s, feedback sessions, and team management. • You bring a solid understanding of backend architectures, APIs, and cloud infrastructure. • You understand business contexts and can translate them into clear priorities and guardrails for the team. • You communicate clearly, structured, and confidently – both with developers and management – and can concisely explain complex issues. • You work independently, reliably, and with a high standard of quality. • You speak fluent German and English.
