Job Description: Engineering Manager On-Prem Platform & Automation

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineering Manager to lead a dynamic team responsible for the software design of platform automation and customer workloads. In this role, you will bridge the gap between physical infrastructure and cloud-native applications, leading the design, implementation, and operations of our On-Premises Containerization and Virtualization platform.

The ideal candidate possesses a deep background in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and will use those skills to automate the entire stack-from physical server builds to customer workload delivery via APIs. As a leader, you will foster a culture of innovation, embodying the values of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) and the Open-Source community, while ensuring high availability and scalability for global operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Platform & Workload Engineering: Lead the implementation of automation and new feature capabilities. Drive operational efficiencies and enhance the developer experience by automating both the platform infrastructure and the customer offerings that reside on it. • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, inspire, and grow a team of OpenShift Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) and DevOps Engineers. Promote a collaborative environment through paired programming and continuous learning. • Global Platform Operations: Oversee the operations of On-Prem OpenShift platforms across Enterprise Data Centers (EDCs), China Data Centers, and Manufacturing Plants. • Operational Excellence: Align with a 24x7 support model, managing Asia/Pacific (India) hours and meeting EPEO MTT(x) metrics. Act as a primary escalation point for critical engineering or operational issues. • Strategic Vision: Contribute to the technical roadmap for the OpenShift On-Prem platform, ensuring security, performance, and scalability for both containerized and virtual machine (VM) workloads. • Security & Compliance: Partner with global security teams to ensure Information Security Policy (ISP) and regulatory best practices are enforced across the entire environment.

Qualifications

Technical Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent professional experience. • Software Engineering: 5+ years of experience in software engineering. • Linux Expertise: 5+ years of strong knowledge across multiple platforms (RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE). • Kubernetes: 3+ years of experience with Kubernetes (upstream or enterprise distributions like OpenShift). • Cloud Platforms: 3+ years of in-depth experience with Cloud-based PaaS and IaaS (GCP and Azure preferred). • CI/CD & DevOps: 2+ years of experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines (Tekton, GitHub Actions, CloudBuild, and/or Jenkins). • Infrastructure as Code: 2+ years working in a 'GitOps' IaC-driven environment using tools such as Ansible and/or Terraform. • Programming: Demonstrable proficiency in at least one language (Golang or Bash/Shell highly preferred). • Observability: Familiarity with monitoring tools (Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack). • API Development: Demonstrated knowledge of RESTful API concepts and JSON formats.

Leadership & Soft Skills

• Management Experience: 3+ years directly or indirectly leading software engineering, SRE, or platform teams with full-stack responsibilities (planning, engineering, and operations). • Global Collaboration: 3+ years of experience working within a globally distributed team. • Methodologies: Strong experience with Agile development and paired engineering environments. • Communication: Ability to act as a technical lead and a diplomatic escalation point for customer and operational issues.

Preferred Qualifications

• OpenShift Specialization: Prior experience with RedHat OpenShift Container Platform and OpenShift Virtualization. • Certifications: CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator), CKAD, or RedHat EX280 certification. • Foundational Knowledge: Deep understanding of networking, security, and storage concepts in containerized environments. • Community Engagement: Experience contributing to or working with open-source projects (CNCF or others). • Advanced GitOps: Experience using GitOps specifically for managing complex OpenShift configurations.
